Nineteen thirty-four (well before lorin's time) was When Cole Porter wrote:At words poetic, I'm so pathetic
That I always have found it best,
Instead of getting 'em off my chest,
To let 'em rest unexpressed.
I hate parading my serenading
As I'll probably miss a bar,
But if this ditty is not so pretty
At least it'll tell you
How great you are.

You're the top!
You're the Coliseum,
You're the top!
You're the Louvre Museum.
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss
You're a Bendel bonnet,
A Shakespeare's sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile,
You're the Tower of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa
I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, baby, I'm the bottom you're the top!

Your words poetic are not pathetic.
On the other hand, babe, you shine,
And I can feel after every line
A thrill divine
Down my spine.
Now gifted humans like Vincent Youmans
Might think that your song is bad,
But I got a notion
I'll second the motion
And this is what I'm going to add;

You're the top!
You're Mahatma Gandhi.
You're the top!
You're Napoleon Brandy.
You're the purple light
Of a summer night in Spain,
You're the National Gallery
You're Garbo's salary,
You're cellophane.
You're sublime,
You're a turkey dinner,
You're the time of the Derby winner.
I'm a toy balloon that is fated soon to pop
But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're a Ritz hot toddy.
You're the top!
You're a Brewster body.
You're the boats that glide
On the sleepy Zuider Zee,
You're a Nathan panning,
You're Bishop Manning,
You're broccoli!
You're a prize,
You're a night at Coney,
You're the eyes of Irene Bordoni.

I'm a broken doll,
A fol-de-rol, a blop,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're a dance in Bali.
You're the top!
You're a hot tamale.
You're an angel, you,
Simply too, too, too divine,
You're a Boticcelli,
You're Keats,
You're Shelley,

You're Ovaltine.
You're a boon,
You're the dam at Boulder.
You're the moon,
Over Mae West's shoulder.
I'm the nominee of the G.O.P.

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're an Arrow collar.
You're the top!
You're a Coolidge dollar.
You're the nimble tread
Of the feet of Fred Astaire,
You're an O'Neill drama,

You're Whistler's mama,

You're Camembert.

You're a rose,
You're Inferno's Dante.

You're the nose
On the great Durante.
I'm just in the way,
As the French would say, "de trop."
But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're the Towel of Babel,
You're the top
You're the Whitney stable
By the river Rhine you're a sturdy stein of beer.
You're a dress from Saks's,
You're next year's taxes,
You're stratosphere!
You're my fuyst,
You're a drumstick lipstick.
You're da foist
In da Irish sweepstake.
I'm a frightened frog that can find no log to hop

But if baby I'm the bottom
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're a Waldorf salad.
You're the top!
You're a Berlin ballad.
You're a baby grand
Of a lady and a gent.
You're an old Dutch master,

You're Mrs. Astor,
You're Pepsodent!
You're romance,
You're the steppes of Russia,
You're the pants
On a Roxy usher.
I'm a lazy lout that's just about to stop

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!
Yes, I am an alt
Whose? An open secret to
Attentive Watchers

I reckon we'll be there too except I'm not sure if we're flying in and staying 3 or 4 days or driving in and staying however long we want to.

if we drive, we are bringing Harry. :D

Still the 21st and 22nd?

That is the core weekend, Romeo...but there will be people around a few days before that and/or a few after. Be there as long as you can!

Heck.....I think I should let Ali drive (We can't let Iolanthe drive or we would be on the wrong side of the road) and I'll hang in the zoomy two seater with the top down. The cars top, that is. 8)
Sorry, never learned to drive. Had a go when I was 18 and ended up in a ditch - haven't tried since. :)

Got lots of advice last weekend in London. Whilst outside having a smoke I met two American ladies from the DNA stand who gave me lots of useful tips like what to wear, suntan lotion, lots of drinks etc. (as Lorin and others have already told me), and a friend who seems to spend half his time in America (don't know how he finds time to work!) told me what to expect at the airport, where to have breakfast at Heathrow, having my fingerprints taken when I get to Dallas Fort Worth to change planes (scary) as I will be an "alien"!!! Great fun!
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

One of my friends has suggested that I take a day trip out to Roswell since I'm such a big X-Files fan, and check out the town. So I'm thinking I'll do that on Monday 23rd June. If any of you want to come along you are most welcome. :)

First post! So I've been a lurker for... *checks profile*... about 7 years. Longer if you count the time I spent lurking before I registered, I suppose. I've always wanted to meet SRD, and life has granted me an unforeseen freedom lately, so I would probably be able to make it to Elohimfest.

So my question to you guys... as someone who doesn't actually know anyone here and who has extreme social anxiety, what can I expect? Are there big crowds? How many people usually attend? Are you all insane axe murderers? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into before I trek across the country. :)

I'm sure many people can (and will) answer better than me but I didn't want to leave your first post hanging. I only went to one, around 3 years ago. I came there myself not knowing anyone, relatively new to the site. I found everyone very welcoming.

I think there were about 25 people all together. Not everyone did everything. I had a really good time and I think you would be fine.

Be Welcome to the Watch, bungleman.
Be Well Come and True.

I've been to two 'fests so far, and there is no pressure (except on organizer danlo) to do anything. Come, hang out, and get to know us.

My first fest with this crew I semi-hosted, and I had the same worries. While I suspect many of them are insane axe murderers, I was not a witness to such atrocities, and found them very easy to get along with. I've been to one efest and enjoyed myself immensely, but to my knowledge, I did not cross any of them, and therefore my life has been spared. I myself am not into axes, but prefer the garrote.

Well, I guess you've convinced me. Assuming finances allow, I'm going to make plans to attend. You probably won't notice that I'm there anyway, but if you go seeking me out, I'll be the tiny little guy in the corner.

Ah, so you can sneak out if things get weird. Good plan. :)

My plan is to be crazier than everyone else. Cuz I figure it's better to be the one that the axe murderers are worried is loco.

It looks like we already have two threads going, so I'll let this all out now instead of starting another. I just talked to Avery Minzer of ABQ Party Space and he's pretty jammed up, he does have the "West Room" available on Friday, June 20th. So with that in mind I'm already worried that it might interfere with people's already set travel plans. Here's link to the facilities www.abqpartyspace.com/ the room runs 399.00 and they can set up a wetbar for 150, they can set up a picnic license for quality restaurants to cater to us, or we can bring our own food. What they offer is-space for up to 150, tables, chairs, tablecloths, cutlery, glasses, podium, mike, sound system, dance floor, decent natural lighting and amble space for our cameras and lights--and, most importantly, complete privacy and unlimited parking. So on top of all this we need to pay the camera crew. Let me know what you think and hows the group can contribute to costs...if Friday is not working let me know ASAP so I can make other plans...if it does works and folks are behind funding this we'll have to let SRD know the new night and date ASAP.

I know I just got here and all, but for me, one day is as good as another. I'm looking at a ~15 hour drive, and I can just as easily drive up and chill at a hotel on Thursday. I would also pay my portion of the facilities/food cost, of course.
