I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

the difference between evidence and sources: whether they come from the horse's mouth or a horse's ass.

okay..some suggestions...bring and wear..light,,loose, breezy clothing..Clothes that "breath" is good idea..You do not want to trap body heat..
Yes..shading ones face and upper torso is good idea.
The Peak temp of the day may reach into the low 100 F. That may be around 3 pm..but it soon turns around and retreats. June is usually still dry,,with no Monsoon.
THEREFORE...drink lots and lots of water or water based drinks. The loose clothing allows the air to cool you by evaporating the moisture in your skin and body..So you HAVE TO keep the liquid level up. No ifs on that. Mandatory. If you start getting headaches,,you probably are in need of water. It doesn't take long to dehydrate.
Hopefully there will be no smoke and ash from a forest fire in a nearby state. Usually, the pay-off of the really dry atmosphere,,7 to 15% humidity..is exceptionally clear sky.. great for taking pics of all the scenery..and for the bronchial impaired. As I have aged, I find the dry heat helps with the stiff joints as well..
Just don't be in a hurry to do or go anywhere. relax. The original inhabitants took it easy. So should we. If all else fails, find a swimming pool and stay in it.

Ha, I figure Albuquerque feels pleasant compared to Mississippi in the summer. It's usually around 90F here at that time of year, but the humidity is so high it feels like you can cut the air with a knife. When it gets up near 100F you can walk out the door and literally feel like you're about to choke. That said, 90F is still hot regardless of where you are.

Having been to 'fest before, and having grown up in Florida, I can attest that Albuquerque is way more pleasant at that time of year. But yes, keep a water bottle on you at all times.bungleman wrote:Ha, I figure Albuquerque feels pleasant compared to Mississippi in the summer. Spot-on, based on my summertime experience of Florida (many summers with grandparents in the humid heat, reinforced by the daily twenty-minute midafternoon thunderstorm to alert all the retirees that it was time to get dressed and go to the discount early-bird dinners at the cheap restaurants) and of New Mexico (not as many summers in my early (somewhat wild) adulthood visiting Dam-sel's family in the dry heat and volunteering to walk the dog just to get some "me" time). You do have to make sure you don't dehydrate, but other than the moisture-suck, summer in New Mexico is not really that uncomfortable if you don't overexert.Menolly wrote:Having been to 'fest before, and having grown up in Florida, I can attest that Albuquerque is way more pleasant at that time of year. Thanks for all the advice folks. As long as no-one expects me to walk up steep hills I should be OK, and I hope there are plenty of public loos if I'm going to have to drink all that water!

"Summer" is a very variable concept along with "hot". What's considered hot weather on these latitudes might make a Florida-based person shiver in their fur coat and dream of a sauna.Zarathustra wrote:Damn, you guys are thorough with your planning ... explaining to adults in detail how to survive a hot summer day.![]()

I start to feel queasy and exhausted in +27C, and require constant mineral water supplies to keep the potassium etc levels normal, in particular if that kind of oppressive heat persists for days.
Why can't you arrange your fests somewhere in Newfoundland or other more Viking-ish latitudes?

As I said above, I've found the dry heat of the American southwest akin to entering an oven.wayfriend wrote:... But it's a dry heat.

YMMV.

Hmm, should I see lots of walking mummies in the Oven of Murica, then?
Would be great to meet again!
Haha, even if I wouldn't end up in the States (a multithreaded matter of costs, vacation time, how to get around there sans a driver's license...regrettably had some setbacks during the Scotland trip and waiting for compensations of several hundreds of euros from a plane company), I'm entertaining some plans about seeing more of England on the usual August break.Iolanthe wrote:That's 91 fahrenheit!!!! Look forward to meeting you again, Frosty. We shall melt together.
