on the first...are you kidding me? Cucumbers have a distinct and significant flavor....more than peas, many potatoes, some tomatoes, string beans, etc. etc. [which really are almost celery strength] And the texture is perfect...just enough crunch [not too much like a carrot] and just enough juicy/slippery [unlike some tomatoes and watermelon].

On the joke....an oldie but goodie, always makes me snicker. There is some movie fairly recent [within a decade] that had that or a variation. Don't recall the set-up, but "eat the plank" punch was the same.
And in the Army, there were many variations involving the use of various equipment to prepare C-rations [c-rats don't exist anymore...I've heard the MRE's aren't that much of an improvement, but never tried them] then tossing the rations and eating the gear.

Besides, once you've *gently* cracked the shell, you get the obsessive-compulsive pleasure of attempting to peel the cracked pieces down to a more-or-less even line.
Like you, Ali, I was a delicate tapper and peeler. Mine were peeled down to the rim of my chicken egg cup (which I still have). But I haven't had a soft boiled egg for years now. C has two every Friday morning and he decapitates his.

There are two kinds of people in this world - those who can, and those who teach. That is a leftover from my schooldays when I took part in an inter school debating competition - "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach" - not true of course. Apparently a George Bernard Shaw quote.

There are two kinds of people in this world...those who can stay focused and those, oh! Hey ! Look, a squirrel..!!

IIRC, it is from Man and Superman [I'm pretty sure I do, Lit and Theater are part of my real thing.] And of course you are right he was wrong.
One smart SOB...though wrong about many things.

There are 2 kinds of people in this world...those who use quotes IN context, and those who use them OUT of context.

GBS was also right about a number of things for which he gets little credit. Certainly, he was a major influence on me many years ago...even if it took decades to gather the wisdom and courage to take him seriously.

Of course, that takes us far from the "two kinds of people" realm...much less soft-boiled eggs. 8O

I like soft boiled eggs and soft poached eggs on rye toast that has been liberally buttered. No ketchup on my eggs, ever. But scrambled eggs do taste nice with salsa.

Two types of people in this world.

Those who think they know everything and those of us who ACTUALLY DO.

:D or Tommy Coopers recipie for Christmas Turkey; Put in a tray, pour over a bottle of scotch, a bottle of brandy and a bottle of gin. Then bake for three hours in a medium oven, throw away the turkey and drink the gravy. ;)

And in keeping with Ali's identification of a group which constitutes a menace to reasonable society, we have another.....two kinds of people in this world - those who 'whistle' and those whose fingers twitch as they reach toward their throats.
