well they have played loose with the rules before. how many regenerations has the Master gone through now?

A lot. He had burned them all out and gave himself a partial reset when he absorbed energy directly from the Eye of Rassilon way back in a late Tom Baker episode (or was that Peter Davison?). Then he jumped bodies into whats-his-name on Logopolis when Ainley took over the role and that body wasn't even Gallifreyan. Then he was Eric Roberts in the Paul McGann movie but it has been too long since I saw it to recall the details. Then he showed up near the heat death end of the universe as the old professor and after that I lose track--haven't been watching it.

Then there was that one time when he was Jonathan Pryce and he had Dalek bumps on his chest which were most definitely not breasts.

However, Missy is also referred to as "The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere" in descriptions of her character. Could the Nethersphere be the pocket universe where Gallifrey is? Or possibly E-space and Missy be a regenerated Romana? K-9 did refer to her as "Mistress" back in the day...

Doctor 8 was offered the choice of becoming female during a forced regeneration in The Night of the Doctor. Could The Master have discovered something similar?

I almost forgot about Romana. Both she and the Rani should return, just to spice things up a bit.

Romana could recover K-9 now that poor Sara Jane Smith is gone.

Yeah, when a vaporized Master can resurrect as a ghostly snake to possess someone else, I think really anything is possible.

As with comic books like Marvel, there are no actual rules in the Doctor Who universe, just the appearance of rules.

This week's episode was much better than the previous one, but wasn't quite great. They tried to make tension by just having the Doctor keep saying it was "the most dangerous place in the universe", which didn't really come across in what was happening and also undermined itself with the hyperbole. The episode was also in several ways a retread of the same territory of the episode "Dalek" in the first season.

The brief scene with Missy in this one was pretty obviously thrown in just so that can keep her appearing over and over until they finally reveal what's going on there. It added nothing to the episode.

One of Doctor Who's most ridiculous premises turned out to be the best episode of the three so far. I guess that's Mark Gatiss for you. It didn't try to do much; just a light, fun episode.

I've got a new game I play with myself when watching Doctor Who. I count how long it takes before the first time someone - almost always the Doctor - makes a negative comment about Clara's appearance. Robot of Sherwood is the only episode so far this season that got all the way through without one. Today's episode - written by Moffat - took about 6.5 minutes.

I enjoyed Robots of Sherwood. It was a lot of fun, I thought.

Listen was pretty enjoyable, too.

I am liking Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.

"Listen" was a very good Doctor Who episode.

The other thing is just me keeping myself aware of the background noise of sexism that Moffat infuses the series with. I've not directly tried to look for it before; now that I am, each instance sticks out and lends itself toward the overall pattern of jokes made at the expense of a woman's looks. It's particularly noticable when they're making a running joke of the Doctor saying insulting and/or insensitive things about Clara's appearance and being completely oblivious that he's causing offence. (Which should be completely out of character for the Doctor. He doesn't lose his memories when he regenerates; he's had two millenia to learn what's appropriate to say to people. I honestly cannot imagine Eccleston or Tennant's Doctors saying these things.)

Yea, I expected Robot of Sherwood would be the first episode this Series, I wasn't going to like all that much (based on the previews and subject mattter), but, it turned out to be great fun.

I too am really enjoying Capaldi's portrayal as the Doctor, and yea, Listen was a great episode, lots of character development and lots of cool twists.

As far as the Clara insults, well she kinda brought it on herself, the way she treated him in his first episode for being old looking now. Though, yea, he has pretty much paid her back in full, by this point, LOL.

What, because Clara's a woman? You really think all the "Mickey the idiot" insults (by especially Eccelston, but also some by Tennant) were any different?

Hmm, point. But they did couch that in a kind of jealousy on the Doctor's part over Rose being interested in him and not just all about being the Doctor's companion. But yes, childish and insensitive.

Julie and I loved the Robots of Sherwood.

Julie was not a fan of the show and like a lot of things I like she started watching because she loves me and wants to share in the things I enjoy. and yes, I do the same for her. having gained a love of country music and the acting Vincent Donofrio because of her. among many other things.

I envy Julie because while she has seen some episodes here and there she can start at the ground floor with Capaldi. she likes Smith and Tennant but hasn't seen any of the other Doctors yet. but she has asked to see "my" Doctor from my youth - Tom Baker. she also seems interested in Davison.

we both have enjoyed Capaldi so far. and we are great fans of Craig Ferguson. so any Scot it seems.

I love Strax. would love to see more of him.

I like the new direction. Tennant and Smith broke my heart at various times. we need a break from that for a bit I think. I never thought I would fall so hard for Smith, so maybe I will be moving Capaldi in the rankings of my faves when his run is ended. I am not a huge fan of Clara, but she is growing on me. and her new friend seems interesting.

I thought the way Rose, Nine, and Ten treated Mickey was childish and mean. So yeah, other Doctors have had their share of acting inappropriate.
