Bar Poems (some mild adult content)

Post by [Syl] »

Another wordspill photograph
On another napkin
The moment before meant nothing
Kill the celibate self
He died last night of a migraine
Not enough hands to steal
all the forgotten drinks
Anyway, in the end
they're all just fancy bottle arrangements
With my stolen pen I'll walk
into the night and explode
I've drank enough so a match can spark me
But that is not why
Oh, it's the drink
but not how you may think
It takes away my vastness
so little ideas barely fit in me
I smack women passing by with my pen
I'm drumming to a song i like
The attention is good, too
To hell with that, i say
Sobriety is me fooling myself
I'm much more shallow than i believe
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Not only did I thieve the pen
But the napkin too
I am low on my alcohol cloud
Clouds that have borders and no edges
Not sharp ones, at least
I've purged them from my life

Dreams remembered my life's substance
But polished and dulled it to marbles
Something else turned my universe
Into a single shimmering point
Yet even this dot tries to bleed me
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I love holding it and letting go
No thought to the grip
But it is sure
Sounds like zen, yeah?
Wait for the details

I love the drink going down and in
I'll buy the one that doesn't make me yell
But I'll take the effects that come
Free or not

Insobriety is so close to dream
It passes through me and into me
It would be like everything else
But not everything else comforts

Few things there are that give more joy
Than light fingers there
How can it be so sensitive
When everything else is numb?

Mine now are great
Her's later would be better
Both give release
Both abandon conscious thought
Do it for the doing and don't think

8O yes, that last one bit is rather adult in it's content! 8O

I've always wondered what it's like for a guy to go out to a bar and get really really drunk, now I know!

I have a couple more with this theme, but I thought three was enough. Basically, I wrote all these poems at Tyler Street Bar (now closed) in Monterey one night when I was 18.

oh yeah... underage drinking is bad, mmkay?

and now i'm 25 and going to the bar is nowhere near as fun.

duh, I know underage drinking is bad. In the words of someone I met at the Say No! To Drugs building, "Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make them all yourself." :)

i'd like to note that i was not really making any value judgements one way or another on drinking, only channeling mr. mackey from south park.

Drooly, once you get to be old enough to legally do things, they never seem to be as good as they were cracked up to be. :(
On the other hand, I think grown ups enjoy Disney World more than kids do!
