FFX-2
Sorry, but I just had to start a topic on this game. Has anyone else tried it? What do you think?
I got the game just over a week ago, I'm up to Chapter 5, and I'm hooked. Personally, I believe this to be one of the best FF games I've played.
The plot is as good as ever, and I had totally underestimated what the mission system could do for the game - the ability to pick other missions in between carrying on with the major plot lines really helps the game. It also removes some of boredom usually present in a more linear FF - by completing all the side missions as well as the main 'hotspot' missions, I was able to keep my characters levelled up all the way through, rather than spending hours on end running in circles fighting random battles, which is what I usually have to do when I reach 3/4 of the way through and realise I'm still at Lv.25.
The battles are faster, and the system is more sophisticated - being able to interrupt enemy attacks by hitting before they cast spell on/reach you is just one of the little points they've put in.
Overall, this is probably at least the second best FF I've played (those being 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, X and X-2).

FF 7 was long enough, I can still hear that music in my worst nightmares, chocobo racing, my ass!
The reality is in this head. Mine. I'm the projector at the planetarium, all the closed little universe visible in the circle of that stage is coming out of my mouth, eyes, and sometimes other orifices also.

Well, I'm on Chapter Five now, I've played around 40 hrs I think, and I'm starting to get sick of it - too many extra little bits to finish off. I'm thinking of just finishing the game then trying New Game Plus.
CovJr - Took me at least ten tries to get past her - it's another effect of the point I made above - I'm always at least ten levels lower in FF games than I should be (whereas on FFX-2 I'm now Lv.60+ without doing any running around for extra exp).
Just a Q, but it's about late in FFx, so I'll spoiler it (for those who haven't got as far as CovJr:

Hey! I got stuck on her! And on the boss just before her!
Monkey, the 100% completion doesn't have to be played twice, I don't think. And the Perfect ending is just the Good ending with an extra scene on the end (NB - normal ending is just that; good ending is extra scenes after the credits; Perfect ending is one other scene on end of Good ending).

There are '100% completeion in one game' FAQs. Aparrently the only things it's not possible to get on your first try are:
- Key to Success
- Enterprise
- Minerva's Plate
- a few garment grids (someone care to tell me which ones?)
- Gippal's sphere
But those don't count towards the Perfect Completion.

Two goes. My strategy for most of the bosses has been to build up all the Aeons' overdrives, then just twat the enemy with all of them in rapid successionMurrin wrote:Spoiler

Well, all I can say is FFX-2 is easy, esp when I look back at the number of times I got stuck in FFX. Some battles in FFX-2 seem too simple:
Spoiler
I took out Anima very quickly, after expecting it to be difficult - The Magus Sisters were hard, but I beat them first try, then on Anima I made a spur of the moment decision to use my 'Assault' tactic - not much of a tactic, but effective. So I switched to all 'Warrior' Dresspheres (of which only Paine has mastered one, the other two are on 20%), then had Paine cast 'Assault' - then sat back and watched as the Chains did their work. Every turn it was either (depending on the order the three of them hit in) 1000-2000-3500, or 1500-3000-5200. Took him out in five rounds. I didn't even have the accessories sorted - went into battle with a Black Mage, Gun Mage, and Berserker, and equipped as such.
Assault is great, btw - Haste, Protect, Shell, and Berserk all in one go - perfect for some annoying enemies that you want to take out fast (I used it on Yojimbo, Chocovorous, Anima, and a couple others).

I didn't try. I'd play New Game Plus even if I did get 100%, heh (is that possible?).
Anyway - first time I played I made the stupid mistake of going straight to the hotspots in Chapter 1, and not doing any optional missions until Chapter 2, so I missed out on almost 10% straight off. I'm realy kicking myself for missing those missions now that i'm finally doing them - how could I have missed playing as a giant Moogle handing out balloons?! And Maechan at the Youth League HQ - I'm still in shock about *that* revelation. If you've played the game and are not sure what I mean, check the spoiler - If you want to work it out for yourself, don't look:
I mean, his excessive knowledge of, ahem, *him* and, er, 'the summoner' had given me suspicions, but this proved it for me.

"Your hand..." - Maechan is the guy who recorded the sphere of Zanarkand 1000 years ago. The man who recorded the Gagazet Floating Ruins sphere was all excited about getting to shake Lenne's hand. Maechan asks to shake Yuna's hand, and his reaction to this is... peculiar (No wonder he can't remember how old he is).
