Healthier is a relative term and as you pointed out, the addictive substance is not gotten rid of. As an anecdotal point (not saying Io does the same thing) I actually know people who inhale more nicotine through e-cigs then through a proper fag....yeah, I used that word in this context, what of it?

In the US, this is trending mainly because it is a means for cigarrette smokers to get a hit of nicotine in a public place (bookstore, restaurant, kid's pizza party) and get around non-smoking laws. In other words, I have to deal with some asshole brat that decides he wants to smoke in a Barnes & Noble, breathing out a bunch of nicotine filled water vapor over everything while I'm shopping for books.

No one I know uses them to quit smoking.

True, Murrin. At the moment I have a 12 strength nicotine liquid (whatever that means) and shall shortly be cutting down to an 8 strength. I also have some non-nicotine liquids that I can mix with the 12 strength to lower it. I am hoping to give up vaping too at some time.

Orlion, I never vape indoors except here in my own house. I try to keep the same principals as when I was smoking proper fags (yes you can use that word in this context). I try always to vape away from other people i.e. not in doorways or crowded places.

On the health side, after a month I can run for a bus without collapsing when I get there, and today I walked a long way up a steady hill, and a short way up a fairly steep hill without getting too breathless, and without getting cramps in my legs! It's many years since I've been able to do that. In fact, I feel very much better than I did a month ago.

I had my MRI last Friday for the pain in my shoulder and arm. Turns out it showed a narrowing of my spinal cord which means something is putting pressure on it. The most likely thing is an injury of some sort that I didn't realize I had. Going to see a neurosurgeon next so really don't know what is next.

get 2 get 3 get 4 opinions before letting anyone cut into your spine.

Definitely will. My wife has hereditary spinal disk problems and has had 4 surgeries - each time she has held off from surgery to get second and third opinions except for the last time when she knew it needed surgery from how bad it was, so didn't question it after her doctor's visit.

I'm hoping it's something that can be fixed with physio.

I recommend the Activator Methods treatment. If you choose a doctor who uses that method, be sure s/he is "Advanced Proficiency Rated." I feel most other methods are too harsh on the body, but others have different results.

Well until I know what it is, I'm going to hold off. I'm not in pain, just have shoulder and arm aches that are very tolerable and a numbness in my index finger.

I'll explore all avenues once I know a bit more.

Autumn has arrived. Just listened to the Last night of the Proms on the radio and caught the end on the telly. The conductor this year was from Finland (are you there Frosty?) and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. During the speeches he took off his jacket to reveal the front of his shirt, which was mostly the Union Flag, and, topically, on his back the flag of St Andrew (Scotland). Tomorrow night is the Festival in the Park (Hyde Park) with ELO, Chrissie Hynde, Blondie and a lot of other people I've never heard of. Chatting away it seems he is a fireman four days a week and for the rest of the week fits blinds - strange combination of jobs. I was just about to write his cheque when C came in pointing at his back. He was choking, something caught in his throat, and wanted me to hit him on the back. It's happened before and that cleared it, but this time I wasn't successful. The fireman/blind fitter then went into action and did the Heimlich maneuver (had to look that up). That worked. Then he showed me how to do it! C was OK after a couple of those, but now has very sore ribs! It all happened quite quickly, and when the man had gone it occurred to me that I hadn't actually thanked him! I feel quite guilty about that, but he was so matter of fact about it. Good job he was there at the time.

I think that's enough excitement for one week!

I am mostly concerned that your hubby is choking twice. You might consider suggesting to him that he see a doctor and check if he has any issues with his ability to swallow.

I thought the same myself, Lorin. Thursday I think it was a peanut - he was eating a chocolate bar at the time. These episodes have been very wide apart, the last time was well over a year ago, but there have been, I think, three including Thursday. I will keep chipping away at him to visit the doc.

I had a root canal on Thursday for an abscess the dentist said was the size of a small marble or a large pea (take your choice).

So my mouth hurts. (I was oddly pain-free all day yesterday so I didn't take anything before hitting the hay last night.)

It was my first ever root canal.
