I disagree, sarge.

Mickey didn't do anything to deserve the abuse that was heaped on him.

Jackie was who she was, the character worked for the program at that time.

So, help me out here.

Did I miss something in the new era? Something that slipped by me? Where did the Doctor's intense dislike of soldiers come from? He's worked with UNIT and Torchwood and..?

Or are they trying to hark back even more to the Hartnell era? My memories are fuzzy, but I think I recall Hartnell's Doctor had issues with the military. Not certain on that, though.

The Doctor wasn't ever crazy about the military, even though he worked with UNIT. The Third Doctor, who I am watching now with my husband, was the first to work with UNIT and he made disparaging comments about the military, guns, and earth weapons.

Some samples from The Terror of the Autons:
BRIGADIER: This, er, this device of his. Is it very powerful?
DOCTOR: Oh, I should say roughly equal to a fifteen megaton bomb.
BRIGADIER: Really? Well, the research boys'll be glad to get their hands on this.
DOCTOR: Too late, Brigadier. I've boiled out the contents. The weapons that you have on Earth are quite nasty enough as it is.
BRIGADIER: If my agents don't turn up something soon, I'm going to surround and search every factory on that list.
DOCTOR: You know, Brigadier, your methods have all the refined subtlety of a bull in a china shop.
DOCTOR: I haven't been to a circus for years. I think I'll go myself.
BRIGADIER: All right, Doctor. I'll get you an escort.
DOCTOR: No, thank you, Brigadier. No, I'll go on my own, if you don't mind. Don't want a lot of soldiers crashing about, do we?
In The Sontaran Strategy, the Tenth Doctor made some comments that indicated he wasn't exactly excited about working with UNIT, soldiers and guns. In fact he was very anti-gun in that episode and the sequel.

Don't have time to research it extensively, but I'm pretty sure every one of the Doctors was not too crazy about the military and made comments to that effect.

But enough to turn down a potential companion (Journey Blue) and to be so offensive to Danny Pink upon first meeting?

The stuff about Danny Pink is just the writing on this new Doctor, I think. I'm finding I like him less and less - treats the people around him like idiots, ignores valid criticism, and never learns or has to answer for any of it.

I think, also, it partly goes back to the guilt trip Davros gave him in the 4th Series Finale where Davros accused him of always building armies and turning his Companions into Soldiers and killing machines.

The thinking being that if a Companion started out as a Soldier, what might they turn into after he was done with them?

And, although, he has had some soldiers he became quite attached to (Especially The Brig), he always had disdain for Soldiers in general, and never really accepted them straight off, they had to work their way into his confidence. And The 3rd Doctor was really, really, pissed at The Brigadier at the end of The Sea Devils, and if he had a working TARDIS at the time, would've flown off in disgust and never looked back. And of course, 10 wanted nothing to do with Jenny because she was a Soldier, and Donna battered him into accepting her.

Also, he just went through the whole war doctor confrontation and then spent a lifetime fighting the invaders off before his regeneration to this doctor.

Murrin, I don't think of the comments he makes to Clara as sexist at all. In fact, I thought those comments were the funniest part of the new series so far.

I haven't really liked the episodes this series much, though. However, I do like the new doctor.

Setting aside the fact that the episode could easily be interpreted as making an argument on an extremely sensitive and contentious subject, Kill the Moon has actually won me over, and given me just that little bit more faith in the show.

Oh man...

I was getting ready to take a nap, as I've been fasting since sunset last night and I have a headache. But I guess the Doctor can distract me for an hour or so,

High Praise indeed for Murrin (I do need to watch Labyrinth again, very soon)

I loved it. I've always seen Capaldi/Clara as Tegan and Ace's McCoy Doctor.

Finally tonight She has declared her departure (For Tegan, Time Flight or Resurrection of the Daleks, depending upon what's coming), which she apparently regrets next Serial, leading me more towards the Timeflight exit, rather than Resurrection... exit. The Capaldi Doctor is a great Amalgamation of all the previous portrayals, but mostly he's crotchety/abusive like Early Hartnell and sneaky and manipulative like Late McCoy (AKA: Ace Time period)

The show seems to have improved somewhat lately. Might have something to do with the fact that the last three episodes do not have the name "Stephen Moffat" on the writing credit. (Prior to this he was credited on every episode except Robot of Sherwood.)

I mean, the monsters and problems still don't make any sense, but the rest of the show's been okay.

Upcoming conflicts: The Doctor will want to leave Clara because he doesn't like that she's becoming more like him. Danny might also have a problem with Clara becoming more like the people who sent him off to war.
