This was supposed to be for an international flight on American Airlines. Not only would they not let us use the points but they took all of them away.

American Airlines is the armpit of the industry. Terrible planes, nasty workers and undependable service. I think it's where civil servants go to work when they leave their government jobs.MsMary wrote:This was supposed to be for an international flight on American Airlines. I think United's mileage program has a slogan that's something like, "We actually *want* you to use your miles."

I haven't flown with them for years, but I remember that they were a pretty awful airline.lorin wrote:American Airlines is the armpit of the industry. Terrible planes, nasty workers and undependable service. I think it's where civil servants go to work when they leave their government jobs.
They're the only airline that has ever lost my luggage and they managed to do it twice.
I remember when they started doing TV commercials about how much they were increasing leg room to, only to find out later that they were increasing it to the point that most airlines ALREADY had their legroom set at.
Probably the worst thing though is how rude the flight attendants are. Can't think of another airline where I've experienced such bad attitudes.
The only time I think I would thank them was one time when I could only get the middle seat of 3 (which I hate) and a very large guy came to the aisle seat and asked if I could lift the arm rest because he couldn't sit in a seat with the armrest down, which to me translates to "I want to sit on part of your seat". I said no and he stormed off to get an attendant, and they asked him to leave the plane and speak with the ticket agent. Ended up with an empty seat next to me and put the arm rest up so I could take advantage.

Non-stop construction...
We live in the city centre and it has been non-stop construction projects around here for the last four years. Was bad enough when they ripped down a culture marked building across the street and then proceeded to rumble for a year while making an ugly new building. Was worse when somehow the city leaders gave the same construction people a deal so they could tear up next to the river bank and rip out 150 years old trees and then rumble there for a over a year. Now, they are tearing up the playground across the street- again! They just did build an entirely new playground there four years ago!!
Our whole house has been shaking on a regular basis for years now!!! Stop it!

That's awful. Unfortunately it happens in far too many places and far too often.Ananda wrote:We live in the city centre and it has been non-stop construction projects around here for the last four years. In our case, it's non-stop highway construction. I can't recall the last time my commute to work didn't include at least some stretch of highway that was in the process of construction/upgrade/whatever.
It's truly truly annoying.

They started the huge, rumbling machines up at 6.45 this morning. Technically, they aren't allowed to start till 7.00, but they always cheat fifteen minutes. They are grinding up the concrete and asphalt from the ground, so it is hardly noisy at all if you were 40km away. Considering we are across the street, it is a bit noisy.

I was always amazed that he managed to be so successful with a solo career. Really nice guy too - so often you'd find him at the bar before they played at Damned gigs, and he would always be willing to talk to anyone who wanted to talk to him.Ananda wrote:I feel like I am living in a Captain Sensible song but without all the cool dancing and singing.

Not really met him, was just in the bar with him and about 20 other people gathered around him. Apparently he makes a habit of it though.Ananda wrote:You met him? Oh, I am so jealous! I'd have made him slightly late for a show if I met him back then!I loved his sense of humour and he was quite sexy in a way.

Aaaah The Damned... New Rose was one of the best ever punk singles back in the day...

Was it something that I said?
PS Pete, yes, great track, but "We got you on SUS", I think.
PPS It brings a tear of happiness to my eye to see fellow middle-aged Brits still in awe of The Ruts.
