Pretty simple. All I would have to do is come up with the categories. Players and observers would do the rest.Syl wrote:I have an idea for another game, though I think this one will be a lot looser and a lot less serious.
When I was a kid, I enjoyed Alan Dean Foster's Spellsinger series. Never a favorite, but... Basically, this guy gets pulled into a fantasy world. Kind of like Covenant. Just replace "leper" with "amateur musician," "white gold" with "music" and Mhoram with a wizard turtle. Anyway, ever since these books, I've often imagined what the music I listen to would do if they were instead magical spells.
I'm picturing each player choosing an avatar summoned from another realm to represent a particular faction. The players will compete in various arenas (generic settings like, say, a desert plateau, a swamp, a crowded market, etc.). Duels will consist of posting links to music videos (official or otherwise), the lyrics, and a description of what the 'spell' does. The other player then does the same. And let's say one more round with the turn order reversed. Then all players (and maybe observers) vote on a winner. After all the arenas/nodes are claimed, whoever has the most wins wins the game.

GT Game for Music Fans
I posted this in the general GT forum and didn't see a lot of response. I'm not sure if it's from lack of interest or lack of visibility. I'll quote the original post, but let me just ask a simple question: do you want to play a mildly RPG-type game against other watchers by posting music videos and lyrics? Can your music beat other people's music?
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Well, GT games don't usually move at a very fast past, so you can pretty much take your time. I'm thinking each player could duel for one category (or two, counting someone else's duel) every... two weeks?... taking as much or as little time offline to think about it as they want. And at least half of every write-up would simply be linking a youtube video and maybe quoting the lyrics.
For example. After everyone's posted their avatar (maybe including their theme song/music), turn 1 starts. Each of the (let's say) 5 players names the category they wish to take (first come, first served). For the rest of the week, players can decide which other player they want to go up against (again, first come first served). If no one chooses to go up against a player by the end of that week, the player can choose an opponent who hasn't already committed to another duel. A week from there, the first claimant posts his song, describing what effect it has (on the other player, the location, etc). That player then has a week to respond. Repeat once more, with the order reversed. Allow a week or so to vote. So, it looks like about six weeks to complete one round.
