Whoaaa... I had a few years where I was very much avoiding dresses, but I've got NUTHIN' on you!

I'm feeling contented but sleepy...
We're homeschooling our kids this year, and it is very hilarious.
One of today's kid-quotes was, somehow, "the king on his royal lawnmower." (?)
We were ridiculously silly all morning as we got... ahem, some schoolwork done. (very slowly and inefficiently)
Then I took the kids to a homeschool club event ("Open Gym") in the afternoon, then took them home to my hubby and drove off and tutored math for 2 hours.
Hence contented. Also, sleepy...

The dress caused a riot! 8O May have to post a selfie. (Ick. Gaah. Kääk.)
I've been wearing more hems lately, but this has meant investing geld into a pile of thermal leggings and woolen whatsits, and I miss the comfort of pockets. Shoulder- and handbags were invented by Lucifer when he first heard of the budding ergonomy movement.

The sword was a counterstrike to A's brain-numbing "cuuuute". I have no spare 300€ right now. :P But my fellow re-enactors have talked about arranging swordfighting practice sessions over 'ere come next spring, and seeing as my back's been getting better lately, acquiring a well-balanced period blade might well come into question.

Can't remember the last time I wore a dress, to be honest. I got rid of all the skirts I owned years ago.

And the whole thing with pockets in women's slacks makes me crazy. Hmm. Think I might mosey over to the Pet Peeves thread and rant for a sec....

In all honesty, the one in 1993 was borrowed. Most of the clothes I owned when I was growing up were hand-me-downs from cousins, who were all male. Being a tomboy, I did not care.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

So your male cousin wore a dress?

:P

But no, if any of them did, they kept quiet about it - my family is pretty uptight about those sorts of things. Which is part of the reason I don't get along with any of them.

Gave one to our favorite Giantess quite on purpose. :P

Money definitely has the habit of materializing when there are shiny new things that can't resist being bought...

I am having similar thoughts right now, only it's a sitar rather than a sword...

Actually, I've worn a skirt in public. There was a version of some Shakespeare play that somebody I knew was re-imagining it as kind of a weird Berlin-type vibe, but was out of time, as there was a Nazi and a kid on a skateboard, and...I don't fully remember now. But I was working front of house for the fun of it, and he jokingly said that I should dress up as a junkie transvestite. So I did. I had syringes stuck in the side of my combat boots, wore hose and a short black skirt, a shirt from my wife (at the time) that fit me, and a bit of makeup and some egg white mixture that held my hair in place but was nasty. During the intermission I'd "shoot up" based only upon what I saw the actors do in Trainspotting. I actually did look pretty good if I could say so myself, and got hit on by both genders. It was a fun role to play, especially when there were older patrons who thought they were seeing a nice Shakespeare play.

I've dressed in a skirt before too... :D

It was when I used to work in theaters, and often at the end of a run of shows, the crew would put on their own version of shows (especially musicals or pantomimes). One one occasion I dressed in a very short skirt with fishnets and a very skimpy g-string...

...then proceded to get on stage in front of a group of professional actors and musicians...

michaelm, do you actually play sitar or is this desire to purchase one a sort of 'all of a sudden, out of the blue fancy'. Not to be a killjoy, but if it's the latter I suggest ....[;)].

That's a kind of yes and no answer. I play a lot of stringed instruments, and each new one I pick up seems easier than the last one. Many years ago I picked one up and while it wasn't easy to play, I always wanted to get one to learn. I'm under no illusions that it will be difficult, but I do have many of the skills to play one already, particularly the string bending (from playing guitar) that many find difficult.

What I think will be much harder than learning to play will be learning to tune it...those things are difficult to keep in tune and don't use Western equal temperament, so electronic tuners aren't really the ideal thing to tune with.

I saw the worst chicken mom ever this weekend. I was at ICA (grocery store thingie) on sunday evening and there was a new girl working there working at the checkout. Her mom was also there. The mom was going through the contents of the section closest to the checkout, collecting the empty boxes, arranging the items neatly and so. The girl was saying, mooooooom..... and another girl who works there was standing nearby, laughing.

Been really sick for over a week. My throat is so sore I can't talk (which my husband is very pleased about). Seeing the doctor this week. I am very sick of being sick. Whatever cough/cold thing has been going around has been given to me and returning over and over. :(

Sounds like that store ought to put Mom on the payroll. Hope you feel better soon, Ananda.

We had a bit of dramalamadingdong over the weekend. An argument between Batty and her father resulted in him locking down her phone (he blocked all her outgoing services) and telling her to get her stuff out of his house by the end of December. (She's been living with me, but I've only got a one-bedroom apartment, so she's been storing some of her stuff at his house.) The guy has a habit of going from zero to Vesuvius in 30 seconds flat, and this is the third time since the kids were in middle school that he's basically broken off his relationship with them. This particular time, both of them were in the wrong, but it would have blown over if he'd been a grownup about it.

Anyway, I had to take her to the Apple Store Saturday night to get her a new phone and put her on my plan. (The joke's on him on that one; we traded in the phone he gave her and got her a slightly nicer one.) But now I need to rent a storage unit for her stuff, and we're going to have to spend time next weekend moving her out of his house. Ugh. Families suck.
