Checking out what's going on here while I can. Three of the attorneys I support are out for the day, either traveling or (in one case) home sick. So it's quiet today -- but it won't be tomorrow when everyone gets back.

I've cancelled my leave, (I'll take it next month instead), partly because so many other people are going to be off (public holiday next week) that it will be quiet enough to hopefully do some of the largish jobs I've been putting off.
It's all internal stuff, and mostly in the "improving things that already exist" category, (or the "making new things that we didn't need before and got along just fine without" one), so I haven't been too pressured (or motivated) to get it done, but it has been a bit like the sword of Damocles, so I should really just get it over with.
(I guess that's partly what I'm going to be doing today already actually. And not doing it is what I'm doing here. )

Av --
I'm putting off diving into a pile of work on my desk. Travelin' Guy was supposed to be off today, but he came in to pick up his new iPhone, delivery of which he's been pestering me to pester IT about for weeks.

It's Friday night, and my life is pathetically boring. Any more questions?

Excitement is overrated.
My Friday night is going to involve watching Doctor Who with my cats, and probably at least a little bit of WoW. (And KW!)
Better than last week, when I stayed up past 2am writing fanfic.
Don't know how that happened - I glanced at the clock at 8 pm and decided to keep going for another hour. Good thing it wasn't a work night. I didn't know I was even capable of staying up past midnight without turning into a pumpkin.

I've done that. Fairly recently, too. I get in the writing zone and don't even notice the passage of time.Sorus wrote:Better than last week, when I stayed up past 2am writing fanfic.

Today, I am stalling. I need to call a couple of hotels to get receipts for one of my attorneys, so I can finish his expense reports, and I just don't wanna...

Happens to me no matter what I'm doing, reading, games, anything. But I'm bad with games...this is why I don't play MMO's.
Today I'm wishing it was tomorrow, because Thursday is a holiday. Suddenly got quite a bit of stuff to do that is not the stuff I was planning to do.
Oh well...I suppose I better start thinking about doing some of it.

I've decided that I'm going to start asking for holidays off since they stopped time-and-a-half, the train schedule sucks, and I don't have a ton of work to do on holidays anyway. So I got Memorial Day off, and now I have July 4th approved, but I just found out that my minion also requested it off and also got it approved. We can't both be off. I don't know who was approved first. They haven't asked me to cancel yet, but I wouldn't put it past them to just schedule me anyway and hope I won't fight it. Because of that sort of treatment, I don't feel overly guilty and I'm not going to volunteer to give it up. But I will feel guilty if they put all the pressure on my minion and make him cancel his plans. Ugh. I guess the worst case scenario is that our job doesn't get done for one day, which probably wouldn't cause the world to end, as much as they would like us to think it would.

Yeah, both take off.
Well, Youth Day tomorrow, commemorating the Soweto Uprising of 1976, when high school students took to the streets protesting the introduction of Afrikaans as the primary medium of education in local schools.
Meeting serious resistance, at least 200 school children were killed by the police, and over 1,000 wounded.
(Doctors in the area refused police instructions to report anybody with bullet wounds, and according to medical records, an abnormally high number of abscesses were treated in the area in subsequent days.)

Now that's a holiday worthy of celebrating.
