Ah, that we've been talking about Sixten Vertigus makes this easier to remember!

Min went down to Suka Bator to persuade Sixten Vertigus to introduce a Bill of Severance (for the UMCP to be independent of the UMC) into a legislative session of the Governing Council for Earth and Space.

Spot on CH

It was great to re-read that chapter when I was looking for a quiz question! Some great dialogue between Min and Sixten.

Over to you Cord :D

Yes, and it really stuck with me how Holt has had Sixten watched and undermined for so long. It's also good to see Sixten fired up about introducing the bill of severance after Min tells him about the immunity drug being suppressed. In a story with many characters that inspire mixed feelings in me, Min and Sixten are unambiguously good, morally speaking.

Thank you, StevieG, and here's the new Gap Quiz question:

What did Holt want Warden to order Min to do if anything went wrong with the mission on Thanatos Minor?
Surging forward in his seat, he [Holt] snapped, "Don't mess with me, Ward. I'll have your balls for truffles.

"You planned all this before you ordered Godsen to admit publicly that Thermopyle was gone, but you didn't bother to mention it. You decided to climb out on this limb without consulting me. Now I'm going to tell you what it means if you fall. Then you're going to go back to UMCPHQ and leave the rest to me.

"If anything goes wrong on Thanatos Minor--anything at all--your precious Joshua is finished. Morn Hyland is finished. Nick Succorso is finished. Milos Taverner is finished. Do you hear me? "That includes the immunity drug. Especially the immunity drug. If I'd known you were going to give the votes any hint it exists, I would never have let you talk me into preserving it.

"Have I made myself clear? You've already sent Min Donner out that way. I assume you want her in position to intercept what comes out of forbidden space. Give her this job. If anything goes wrong out there"--his hands knotted into fists and pounded each word onto the desktop--"you make goddamn sure she kills them all!"
Thanks Cord :D I don't mind admitting that I'll happily look up the answer to a question - it usually gets me on a bit of a recap re-read (usually just the chapter), and it's great to throw oneself right in the middle of the story and relive some of the magic!

But that one was a complete guess

So anyway:

In the text, SRD writes:

"Hashi Lebwohl was not a dishonest man. It was more accurate to say that he was ________"

What's the missing word? :D

I am trying to remember the correct adjective, but I think it is something to the effect of "indifferent (or ambivalent) towards the truth."

I seem to recall that Donaldson used one of his made-up words to describe Hashi. I will give this some more thought, StevieG! :!:

This sounds close to how Hashi was described by Donaldson. I think I may have the answer soon.

Hashi Lebwohl was not a dishonest man. It was more accurate to say that he was ______. He liked facts; but truth had no moral imperatives for him, no positive - or negative - valuation. It had its uses, just as facts had theirs: it was a tool, more subtle than some, cruder than others.

Playing off IS there (because he _was_ described as being indifferent to the truth somewhere), "indifferently honest"?
