My job has to be done 7 days a week. I do the brunt of the work; there isn't usually a lot on the weekend. The Saturday guy usually does okay. The Sunday guy doesn't do anything, and lies about it. There's a paper trail a mile long showing that he isn't doing the work, but there are never any consequences for him.

Easier to ignore the problem than to hire and train someone from scratch. The boss knows I will clean up the mess, and my morale is irrelevant.

...... or who just keep loading more and more tasks onto the levels of staff below them with never a thought as to the feasibility of actually being able to do them .........

Yes. I have a good track record when it comes to getting extra work done, but sometimes they make me cover for someone in a completely different department, and I have had to explain more than once that I can't literally be in two places at once, which they just don't seem to get sometimes.

Oh, we have labour laws. I could make a great deal of trouble for the company I work for, but in the end, it's just not worth it. There's crap to put up with in every job, and this isn't even the worst job I've had. It's the second-worst, but the prize winner was magnitudes beyond anything I have to put up with here.

I usually spend the first half of Monday cleaning up after the weekend people. I've tried complaining about it, but I get told they were 'too busy' - which is true, they were too busy watching YouTube. Getting them in trouble will just make things worse for me. I knew today was going to be worse than usual, and when the boss called me into his office I was filled with more than the usual amount of dread. He gave me a gift card and acknowledged all the extra work I did last week, which was a double shock. Even more shocking is the idea apparently came from the clique leader who hates me.

Acknowledgement is very nice, and so rare, as are bonuses, but I'm also feeling a little bit like Carrie at the prom. There has to be a trap there somewhere, I just haven't spotted it yet.

bleeding hearts whine about the criminals. it was 114 degrees (with
heat index) on Sunday. no one protests that we work in that.

Silly thing - but I find the current trend of News-Readers on the BBC to accompany their reading with hand gestures at moments where they deem special emphasis is needed, to be very off-putting. It has an entirely manufactured look to it and this ersatz attempt at naturalness is very distracting.

And while we're on the subject of TV, why call a fly on the wall program about the housing departments of a number of local councils How to get a Council House. It isn't about how to 'get a council house'; it's about the massive strain that the shortage of state owned housing stock is placing on both the local administrators of what stock is available, and the people who should absolutely be provided with state housing - but for whom there is none available. The name given to the program implies that the watcher will be provided with some 'seedy insider secrets' as to how to 'wangle' themselves a house, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth!

Their version of click-bait headlines I guess. :D

As for the other, I tend to talk with my hands to some extent, so don't really notice it in others. :D

Not that it gives me any kind of satisfaction, but it's interesting to see that it's the same everywhere.

People who try do their work correctly and are willing and friendly enough to do extra stuff if neccessary get more and more tasks to do and others get away doing nothing. Those are not being asked to do anything anymore, instead they come to people like me. "XYZ needs to be done. I know you already have lots to do but we have a staff shortage bla bla bla". No, you don't have a staff shortage, you have a shortage if it comes to leadership qualities. And one more thing: don't complain to me if I don't get my regular work done due to extra stuff.

Oscar Wilde once wrote a story on it; the lazy neighbor who dumps not and more on his willing 'friend' and then complains bitterly about the man's selfishness when he eventually drops dead from over-work! Sad, but this is how the world is!
