Damn the supermarket for having a special offer on both Plymouth Gin (41.5%) and Schwepps tonic water on the same day!

Damn technical snafu weirdness in this thread that has...

a) deleted one of my posts

and instead

b) shown me as author of a post I never wrote. AS IF I'd ever praise Starbucks for coffee-making... they haven't got a clue.

It sounds like one of the mods edited your post, Fallen. Maybe you upset one of them with your anti-US coffee & cheese diatribe.....

Yeah, that makes sense, given the parts of it you can see quoted in the other posts. Nice work, Murrin! But, looking at who responded to the coffee comments, I think maybe an Admin made the mistake, not a mod.

No man, that's just wrong. You need to pour the boiling water over your tea. Not boil the water with the tea already in it.

Nah, you boil the water first, than you put the tea in the strainer into the kettle.

I mostly pour over my tea, since I don't have enough people at my tea parties to justify using the strainer.

Good news, though, looks like most of the original is still in Owlie's response.

At least the gaffe answered my curiosity as to what The Fallen thought about Starbucks

Ditto that LH! I've been trying to shake a really bad Mother for weeks now. Everybody at my work is off sick or sloping around like 'the Mummy' with rags pressed to thier face.

Is it just me or are cold/flu bugs changing in nature over the years. Up until seven or eight years ago (and I'm in my 50's) all the colds of my life (about 2 or 3 a year) followed the same pattern. Sore throat leading to blocked up nose finishing with cough/chest. This process would take about a week or so and then the cold was over for a good few months. Now I get a cold almost on a monthly basis, the sore throats or blocked nose can grumble on for weeks rising and falling in severity. I get digestive tract problems (let's not dwell on these!) and all manner of other aches and pains that were never previously part of a cold for me. Now - either I am just getting worse at dealing with colds as I get older (possible, but not backed up by the fact that all the same things I'm getting are also being seen in the wide variety of individuals I come into contact with on a daily basis) or the bugs themselves are changing ie more of them and of higher pathogenicity.

Just wondered if any of you guys had noticed anything similar.

Colds do linger longer when I get them (and I'm about the same age as you, peter), but I've been chalking that up to being old and out of shape. Hmm.

My colds are the same as they were 10 years ago, except slightly less frequent and slightly less severe, and they last about half as long. But I've always been mildly congested, even when I'm not sick--I think this is why I have almost no sense of smell... And I have seasonal allergies now, which I didn't have then.
