I am going Monday to get a wheelchair to use until my surgery, which is now scheduled for April 10th. My advice is, never say thinks can't get any worse, cuz they always seem to do just that.

went to the rec center for the first time tonight. played some horse with Julie. (twice) did the bike machine and the treadmill and than swam for an hour. they have a whirlpool thing that brisks you along at a fari clip in a somewhat circular path in the pool. and a waterslide i tried once. did some laps. great time, exercise can be fun. we plan at least 4-5 days a week there.

Don't worry, HLT, I'm positive it's just from watching Ted Kennedy and John Kerry on TV the last few days.

Wow. I just returned home from the optometrist and I need glasses - turns out I am short sighted and have been seeing the world blurred without me realising it; I guess I became used to it. So that's $900 I have to pay.

That happened to me too... I got glasses and was amazed that people could see so well.

Speaking of which, my contact just fell out and is already shriveling up. Augh.

Heh, I was like that until I couldn't read the board at school. I've had my glasses (I'm working on getting a pic of me with them on) since early last year.

$900? Get health insurance. Mine were only $90.

I feel hungry. I want lunch...wait, it's lunch time. Holy snikeys! My wants and the time of day have for once ran parallel to each other! Off I go, to lunch--while watching anime, even!

(But my blood pressure is great BECAUSE I don't listen to them.)
I wonder how Mary Joe would feel today?

July 20, 1969 the "Rosemobile" being pulled from the channel (Poucha Pond).

As young and beautiful Mary Jo Kopechne suffocated inside the Delmont 88... Ted, the conscience of the Senate, swam to his own safety.

Ted fled to his posh hotel room, then to sleep, perchance to dream, never bothering to call the local constabulary.

A science teacher and 15 year old boy fishing from the "Dike Bridge" found the car in the morning.

Just got back from spending a couple of days in Kalamazoo with my older son. He has been accepted to both the engineering school and the honors college at Western Michigan University. They had invited him to come for the weekend and compete with some of their other applicants for $40,000 scholarships. The odds are against him (there were about 300 competing kids and 12 of the full ride scholarships), but they have already offered him a generous scholarship that he can keep if he doesn't get one of the huge ones...he is pleased because the engineering school was only built three years ago and everything is shiny and new and state of the art...and because one of the meal plans offers up to 99 meals/week.

So we're pretty much down to three schools now - Ball State, Western Michigan, and Northwestern University. He's getting some great offers...he's going to have a very hard time making up his mind this spring...but at least it is a very good problem to have. :)
Love as thou wilt.

Congrats on your son getting in a uni, duchess! This country needs to graduate all the engineers it can; China is producing about 220,000, I think, with the U.S. lagging at 60,000.

But anyway, college--! I know he'll love it; it's such an amazing experience. Heck--they're almost done building a Starbucks at mine. I really hope he does some studying abroad, if they offer such!

Well, if he ends up going to Ball State for its Architecture School, he will be able to choose from a summer abroad studying architecture in either Rome or Asia (the Asian location seems to change around a bit, but past locations have included Japan and Sri Lanka).

If he goes to Northwestern, there are many opportunities to travel pretty much anywhere he might like to go. The dean of the engineering school, when she learned of his love of architecture and of Paris, said that they could certainly arrange a summer in Paris studying architecture for him. :)

The Honors College at WMU has a summer program where a group of students travels with their WMU professors for a month or so and studies something in depth. One summer they went to the western USA and studied geology. One year they did a traditional grand tour of Europe. I picked up the card for this summer's trip out of curiosity, and they will be spending a month in Prague where the students have a choice of studying creative writing, central European and Jewish culture and history, and/or photography.

In addition, all three school encourage their students in such activities. During the competition today, they had activities for the parents. One of the activities was an opportunity to question current honors students. Two of the girls were seniors, and both had received grants to go overseas to conduct research for their honors theses. One of the girls is a business major and travelled to Pakistan, where she interviewed women about their work, and wrote a thesis about woman-owned business in Third World countries, The other senior was a nursing student and she travelled to London, England, where she observed and interviewed nurse midwives, and her thesis was based upon her findings. :) (WMU was sneaky - what parent could ever doubt that their child would be going to a place with a high quality education when they get a chance to talk to two young women like those two? )

So he should have plenty of chances for great educational travel at any of the three schools. :)
Love as thou wilt.

Intrigued. We had a 2.8 earthquake an hour and a half ago. I just found the website that gave the magnitude.

An apology is not needed. Seriously.
