Am just starting The Mystics of Mile End, by Sigal Samuel. The blurb I saw for it reminded me of Chaim Potok, so I decided to give it a go.

I'm about halfway through, Av. I think you would enjoy this one, if enjoy is the proper word to use regarding Potok-style works.

Don't think I've ever read any of his "contemporary" fiction.

I've read Wasp Factory. It's weird, but good.

I might have started The Crow Road once, but I'm not sure I finished it. Certainly more than 20 years ago.

Just finished re-reading Saga of the Pliocene Exile by Julian May. Now I'm thinking about re-reading The Eternity Brigade by Stephen Goldin.

In general I'm reading a few books that sit and think about the very difficult boarderline between materialist and idealist world views; that grey area occupied by people who Richard Dawkins once referred to as 'pallid lilly-livered fence sitters', those of us for whom a fundamentalist belief that 'science is all there is', and will oneday have answered all the questions there is, is a leap of faith to far.

Specifically I'm re-reading How to make a Human Being [first create your Universe] by Christopher Potter. This is one 'pallid....[etc]' with whom I'm proud to be onside.

Indeed it is. Have you ever read The Eternity Brigade? If not I highly recommend it unless you dislike military science fiction.

I preferred the prequels myself. Intervention, Jack the Bodiless, etc. But I must point out this is for general fiction. :D These properly belong in the "What Sci-Fi / Fantasy Book Are You Reading" in the Gen Sci-Fi/Fantasy Forum.

(Not that it really matters, but just sayin... ;) )
