(so others don't have to search, like I just did, Frank Dreben: he's the Lt. in the Naked Gun movies--which I have, fortunately, never seen--but if the same actor played the "movie" Mr. Magoo he'd simply be commiting suicide right? Or, at least, eliminating one of his clones. If Lt. Frank Dreben fought the "cartoon" Mr. Magoo then he'd be toast, but if he started to get back up then Mr. Magoo has the right to ask Stevie Wonder to join him in finishing him off. Those are the rules!

You cannot claim a victor when you know nothing about Lt. Frank Dreben.

77s - Mr. Magoo
i may be mr. magoo
but i see through you
stupid fool
old magoo
you got a way
to suck me in
and then you spit me out again
i try to take it on the chin
but i bump into everything
you know the way to keep me blind
diggin' that silly old grin of mine
if i give you my world
and you don't want it
that's just fine
when i don't know my way around
i do all right
and i get along
my intuition is strong
i may be blind but
i know what's going on
i want to love but
i don't know the danger i'm in
forgetting all the trouble you've been
you keep me waiting in the wings
you're flying high
with all your friends
you sail me like a paper plane
then bring me down
to earth again
stupid fool
old magoo
when i don't know my way around
i do alright
and i get along
my intuition is strong
if you come along
i'll be going, going, gone
i may be mr. magoo
but i see through you

You know I can't watch Forbidden Planet any more without hearing Leslie Nielson say "And stop calling me Shirley." (from Airplane!)
Everytime I thing of the Naked Gun films I have picture in my head of the full body condom scene, very funny.
Bottom Line:
Priscilla Good, Mr Magoo (film) Baaaad

In defense of Judge Dredd, the movie did have one cool ass robot in it!
In defense of Demolition Man, it did predict governor Schwartzenneger would become president......
seriously.

Judge Dredd had the pontential to be one of the greatest movies of all time.safetyjedi wrote:J
Judge Dredd
The uniform alone deserves an oscar!
But Stalone..... didn't want to wear it.
Heaven forbid his face isn't in every shot.

Should have gone with a noname actor, imho.
Kinda like the 3rd Robocop (or second, I forget) where the guy ran around as Robocop but with the face plate gone.

I realized long ago that Judge Dredd and Demolition man weren't oscar nominees but I enjoyed them just the same. Odd that both stories seem to have a similar feel with an almost identical climax at the end. Hmmm......
The best thing about Dredd is the robot and with DM its Sandra Bullock.
Notice I didnt mention Stallone.
Heh.

Dredd was terrible though. Throughout the whole however many decades of Dredd as a comic book character, the central point of it was that he never showed his face. Hell, he never had a face. Stallone took off his helmet ten minutes into the movie, and it was ruined. And I think the uniforms were overdone too. Everything looked plastic.

The movie was a lot of fun for me as a kid. But I remember one scene that terrified me: where Flash goes to lay down in a forest (?) and is suddenly swallowed up by a freaky, spidery-like creature. That gave me nightmares!Dragonlily wrote:Definitely NOT one of the absolute worst science fiction films! Eye and ear candy, I calls it.theDespiser wrote:Flash Gordon? with the soundtrack by queen?

Judge Dredd: I agree, Dredd without the helmet just isn't Dredd. Stallone's narcissism got in the way. The movie itself was dreddful. (groan....)
Demolition Man: It had an interesting premise, but like other post-Rocky Stallone projects, it just turned into another big ego trip. Not even "nice girl" Sandra Bullock can save this movie. Also, her "romance" with Stallone's character ranks high on my Vomit Meter.

Ah give Sly a little break--yes most were crap but Assasins was damm cool (maybe credit Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore there), Daylight (which is never discussed) was very good, Get Carter (well Rourke and Caine (who did a much, much better job in the lead role in the original) helped) was slick and his performance in Copland was outstanding.MM wrote:but like other post-Rocky Stallone...

I never saw Copland, but yes, I have read that Stallone gives an excellent performance in it. It's telling, though, that the Stallone films you're recommending aren't sci-fi. Which goes back to safetyjedi's succinct viewdanlo wrote:Ah give Sly a little break--yes most were crap but Assasins was damm cool (maybe credit Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore there), Daylight (which is never discussed) was very good, Get Carter (well Rourke and Caine (who did a much, much better job in the lead role in the original) helped) was slick and his performance in Copland was outstanding.MM wrote:but like other post-Rocky Stallone...

I think the Rocky films (with the exception of V, which I have not seen but which I hear is awful) represent Stallone at his best.safetyjedi wrote:Sly + Scifi = @#$%$##^^&!

I had the great fortune of watching 3 Oscar worthy performances in a 2 week period about 4 years ago: Stallone in Copland, Nick Nolte (and I think Lee Marvin did win an Oscar as his dad) in Affliction and Kevin Bacon (who definately should have won!
) in Murder in the First.
