Hope yours went well, Cag.
Glad that week is over. From a colonoscopy to a root canal, I'm ready to stop that nonsense for a while. After finally losing my fear of needles with all the bloodwork they do for my thyroid out, the root canal was a piece of cake. I used to get so afraid of getting the shot, and now I don't care and really want them to do as good a job numbing me up as they can.
I suspect this was the root canal from Comfort Dental, AKA the Walmart of Dentistry. I went there back when I was starting a new job and didn't have health care yet. I figured it was the affordable way to go, but I think overall if they had done it right in the first place, it would have been best. Still, they were fighting against not being able to get me fully numb, so I guess they were racing against the clock. Which is a sure sign of someone who doesn't know what they are doing.
This time it was a specialist, and they definitely knew what they were doing. But they were too chatty. You're messin' in my mouth - stop asking me how I'm doing every 5 minutes, and explaining everything you're doing, and exactly how it is going to feel (this will pinch a bit, this will rattle around a bit, you'll feel some pressure, blah blah blah). Just do it. I'm just a slab of meat. Fix me.
But yeah, the four shots in my mouth was what hurt afterward. But it didn't last into the next day too much. But I do get to do part 2 October 30th. I guess they have to see if everything is healing up and clean up again if not. Hopefully there will be no part 3.

Urg, sounds like fun [/sarc].

I think Kenshi might finally be losing it's hold on me...yesterday was the first time in 3 months (other than at meal times) that I actually did some reading instead of playing that damn game. :D

I'm completely immune to every local anesthetic that dentists use. They refuse to believe this, and insist on injecting it anyway. And then don't believe me when I say I can feel everything. So I have the choice of being completely knocked out (which usually costs about $900/hr on top of the actual work), or just dealing with it.

My regular dentist is awesome. I dread when he retires. A couple of years ago I had bone graft surgery and titanium screws put in my jaw. (Pro tip - don't get hit in the face.) The specialist who did the work was... competent. That's important. I've had incompetent dentists. Anyway, he was this old Russian guy who barely spoke English, and was totally fine with doing the work sans anesthesia. "Just take a couple of Advil after." Exact quote. It was not fun.

My regular dentist is also amazing. If he tells me he can do something without anaesthetic, I let him do it. The GF especially is not looking forward to his retirement. I don't go to him that often, since I have the damned periodontist now. That man has zero sense of humour.

Dentist and Awesome are not two words that are generally said in the same sentence :D Good to hear you have them. Actually, I have an awesome dentist too. The last one I had was not awesome at all, but sadly he moved on to dentist heaven, and the new one is great.

Whine alert.

My upcoming biopsy for which I am traveling to the States solo, plus a whole pile of other stuff I won't bore you with, have cranked my anxiety levels through the ceiling. I am actually on meds for it for the first time in my life. I only take them at night, so I can actually sleep for more than 3 hours. This has been for a couple weeks. Yesterday I actually felt GOOD for the first time in... I don't know. So I baked a pie, made a fish soup, Stag and I went out for lunch, went for a walk (it was Independence Day so there was no school) and just had a great day doing whatever the flip I felt like doing.

Then today, I start getting a cold. Can I catch a break, here? Waah, waah, waah.

You may now return to your usual upbeat chatter.

So, I had to have a blood draw on Tuesday for an upcoming appointment to check my missing thyroid levels, and I went to the lady saying that I had a colonoscopy, a root canal, and hosted a slumber/birthday party for my daughter. I said I've been through hell this week, so do your worst.

She did. I have a huge bruise on my arm from the blood draw. Biggest I've ever had. Be careful what you ask for.

Ouch. My favorite phlebotomy story involves an amateur tech who turned me into a pincushion trying to find a vein (my veins are smallish, but most can get one on the first try) - she ended up raising what looked like a small volcano on the back of my hand.

Hope you get the desired results back. And that goes for your test as well, Deer.

Haha, I've had one of those. And then when she found the vein, she ended up pushing right through both sides. (I had septicaemia when I was a kid, they took blood from me like 5 times a day for a week. )

Definitely.
Went on a great hike over the weekend with the kids. It's one we've done before, but the weather was perfect and as the hike is very exposed, the heat normally wears us down quickly. It wasn't the case yesterday and we made it further than we ever have, and that includes before the kids were born and I was in shape (but smoking). We had a great time and there was none of the usual fighting and stupidity that often plagues our hikes once the kids get tired.
This is big for me as once I had my thyroid out, I didn't think I would be any good for hiking anymore. But now I'm feeling inspired to climb a fourteener with the kids, which is something I wanted to do right before having the thyroid out, but didn't find the time. So yay. I'll still have to work up to it a bit, as I'm sure the kids are pretty much ready to go now. I used to climb mountains as a kid when we'd come to Colorado from Kansas each year, and while it was exhausting, it usually was pretty fun. I expect I won't have many years left to do this, so I'd better get ready before next spring/summer.

Is "fourteener" like a grade?

Ha! I had to look up "fourteener" - a mountain at least 14,000 feet high, is that right? If so, that's impressive! Looks like you're well on the road to fitness :D

I have a fourteen year-old and it seems to me a fourteen thousand foot mountain would be easier to manage than a 14 year-old, but perhaps that's just this last week...

Apart from that, I feel pretty unmotivated at the moment (hence why I'm here  ) - I hope that changes as the week goes on.

I hope you get to do it, Cagliostro, for I bet you would find it very satisfying just like in the past! I'm an avid hiker, and also an ex-smoker, myself! :nanaparty:
