That's a little extreme, doncha think? I think subtle nudging in the right direction is all it will take. Once he reads this thread and sees that his readers who matter most (No offense Seareach and others who prefer "Should" ) want "Shall" he'll see the light.
Plus, I'd rather not annoy the man. He has 6 more years of TCTC coming up, and I'd rather him have as smooth and peaceful a time with it as possible.

The more we argue "Shall", the more he's going to be convinced "Should" is the right way....just ask the THOOLAH crowd, who argued against Linden back in the '80's, when if they had just kept their fool mouths shut, Donaldson would have changed her to a character based on Bernadette Peters.

Bwah! I never heard that story. Any details?
However, it does occur to me that maybe it's an editorial fiat, and nagging him about something he can't change would just make him feel bad. (I've had my share of editorial fiats lately, whah. )
And yeah...I know, danlo. Heh. For some reason, the entire month of September disappeared on me. I'll try to get the dissection done today. Sunday at the latest. At least, I should be done. -jay
I wouldn't recommend annoying SRD over "shall" or "should". He has a reason why he's changed it, and has ever right to change it. Until you read "Should Pass Utterly" you won't know whether should is more apt than shall. [I know everyone is having some fun, but I wouldn't harrass him on the GI about it!]
Tell your inmates to use shall to show what happens in the future using first person subject (I/We)
eg I shall enjoy reading Should Utterly Pass.
Use will in 2nd and 3rd person.
eg You will pay $27.95 for the hardcover edition of Should Utterly Pass.
Of course your inmates should know that the rule is reversed when expressing determination (and obligation I think, whatever) Use will in first person and shall in 2nd and 3rd person.
And remember, should is used in first person to express future from the pov of the past.
As an example SRD said: My publisher insisted that I should change the f***ing title of Shall Utterly Pass.
Or you could tell them that it doesn't matter, because who in the hell actually uses shall anyway?

I should pass utterly by any book called Should Pass Utterly.

Shall/Should is obligation. (Can/Cuould capability. Will/Would intention. May/Might is permission.)
... except shall can sometimes be used on inanimate objects, such as "truth and beauty shall pass utterly" ... in which case it indicates the way events will unfold, an inaminate obligation, if you will.
I am not sure that should is even gramatically orthodox in this phrase. Is truth and beauty obligated to pass utterly?

Now that's funny!

Hmmm. It's been a while since I've learned the will/shall (pain in the ass rule), but I think you could also interpret should as "truth and beauty ought to pass utterly." That's an acceptable usage. I suppose it makes sense then.
I'm too lazy to track down the entire poem/passage from the books. Does anyone remember it? We can have a group dissection of it to determine its grammatical correc-tivity!
I'm sure the watch has an English teacher or two who could straighten us out!

Too much of an inferred reference to "None shall pass!", maybe? I'm not sure. It doesn't have quite the same effect though, does it?
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
