So what you are saying is that a propulsion system that doesn't conform to your inexpert understanding of micro mechanics is equal to the magic of say a Leprechaun. Got it. Glad you cleared that up.
I guess Iron Man's super strength, armor protection and repulsor rays would be better described by witchcraft. I know Doctor Doom dabbles in such things and he wears as similar suit of armor.
(I believe we've discussed the idea that Iron man's boot "jets" are most likely a variation on his Repulsor Rays which would not require liquid fuel or a jet of propulsive flame to perform the task. Of course the Rocket Skates and the faceplate nose were both vairly idiotic ideas.)

See, it's that kind of attitude that makes me hope God punishes you by getting someone like Robert Downey Jr. to play Tony Stark in an upcoming Iron Man movie......

At least your response was on topic and speaking of that....
Now that I've had a few days to think about it I think Downey may be a great suprise choice that may really make the film above average.

Iron Man just doesn't seem to end itself WELL to the big screen, unlike Spidey and X-Men. Ghost Rider Scares the heck out of me too.
My reaction is the exact opposite. Iron man has always been the only superhero that doesn't require a silly leap in logic. Bitten by a radiocative spider, gamma rays, cosmic rays, blinded by toxic waste, werewolf, aliens, wild mutation, brightly colored tights etc. Iron man is based on advanced technology that if presented in the right way can be the most plausible approach for the super powered hero. I believe Iron man the movie had the chance to be presented as the most acceptable / beliveable super powered hero so far. But you never know. It could be a train wreck. We'll see.
It's not the believability of the powers that gives me concern... it is the character aspects and the flavor of the franchise. A multi-billionaire alcoholic who has the worst ticker ever? This guy, in the real world, would be a sissy, not a super-macho playboy. I dunno. I'd rather see a GOOD Daredevil movie.

I wonder how they are going to ruin..er... I mean change the Iron Man myth.

This is Hollywood remember.
Who's going to be the "ultra important" female character that really has nothing to do with the comic that will be so prominent in the movie?

Who will be the non "offensive" bad guy/girl?

Wait, I just found this:
On July 22, 2006 at the San Diego Comic-Con, Favreau confirmed that the villain for the upcoming film would be the Mandarin. He also announced that, "The suit will be more like a weapons platform than a flying suit – more of a War Machine-feel to it.".

So my question is answered.
IronMan will be a PG-13 Inspector Gadget.
:-x

I wonder if the Mandarin will be male or female or even Chinese (because we don't want to stereotype).

I hear it's the same actress who played Jean Grey in the X-men movies, which is interesting, because the only redhead I remember Tony being with is Bethany Cabe, and she was around during his drinking days, so who the hell knows what this movie will end up being. Of course, she's probably just portraying Pepper Potts, and everything may just be fine....I'm looking forward to seeing this film in any event.

Lack of range. Boring. Even in "Closer", she was bad, even with her co-stars performing execellently. Just my opinion.

I meant what makes Janssen so bad? You won't get much of an argument from me about Roberts (I liked "Closer," by the way.)

Good Lord. I suppose you'd have preferred Man Mountain Marko and the Kangaroo to the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, ya big dink!

Instead of The Mandarin perhaps they should have chosen a villain with more credibility. Maybe The Red Ghost and his Amazing Super Apes, The Black Llama, Kraken, The Blood Brothers, Midas, The Chess Men, The Freak, The Demolisher, Night Phantom, The Controller, Lucifer, The Minotaur, The Solar Sword, Ramrod, The Slasher, The Demon Queen, Mikas, Princess Python, Raga Son of Fire, Fangor, The Masked Maurader, Rokk, Dr. Kurarkill, Dreadknight. I could mention some of the good ones too. The Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Ultimo, The Blizzard, The Living Laser etc. Okay. If you haven't already guessed I do indeed own every Iron Man comic published except for a few Tales of Suspense that are still priced beyond my meager budget. NO I can't quote every word of every page. I haven't read many of these books in quite a few years though I suddenly realize I am ashamed that I haven't re read the series in so long. Better get Kraken...er crackin. :-)

I really like the idea of the Red Ghost and his super apes. I will admit that I didn't recognize a few from your list. I think you missed Spymaster and he could be worked out I believe.

ACADEMY-AWARD(R) NOMINEE TERRENCE HOWARD SIGNS ON TO MARVEL STUDIOS' IRON MAN

Joins Robert Downey Jr. in Super Hero Action Adventure Film Being Directed by Jon Favreau and Distributed by Paramount

Los Angeles, CA (October 10, 2006) -- Marvel's IRON MAN continues to attract Hollywood gold as Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award® Nominee Terrence Howard has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated film. Howard will take on the role of Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, Tony Stark aka Iron Man's best friend, in the project slated to launch into theaters May 2, 2008.

The addition of Howard solidifies an impressive foundation for Marvel Entertainment's first self-financed and produced feature film that also includes Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. in the title role and Jon Favreau directing. The move also reinforces the continued allure of Marvel's Super Hero universe among Hollywood's most celebrated actors.

As Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, Howard will portray Tony Stark's confidant and associate. Rhodey is an accomplished military pilot. His daring and skills become valuable assets to Tony Stark -- the billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who becomes the armored Super Hero known as Iron Man.

"When we first began to think about IRON MAN, we always envisioned Terrence as Rhodey. The richness of the role and complexity of the character seemed to mesh perfectly with the type of passion, energy and emotion that Howard brings to all of his projects," said Kevin Feige, President of Production, Marvel Studios. "Now with Terrence on board to co-star alongside Robert, we cannot be more excited about the great chemistry they will bring to IRON MAN."

Howard exploded onto the Hollywood scene in 2005 after delivering strong performances in such films as Hustle & Flow, for which he received an Academy Award Best Actor nod, and the Oscar-winning Best Picture Crash. He has received awards for Breakthrough Actor by the National Board of Review, Movieline and Gotham Awards. Howard recently completed production on The Brave One with Jodie Foster, and is currently in production on Spring Break In Bosnia with Richard Gere. His recent film credits also include Idlewild, Get Rich or Die Tryin', and Four Brothers.

Marvel Studios is currently casting all other supporting roles. Filming is slated to begin in Los Angeles in February 2007. The film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

IRON MAN will be produced by Avi Arad and Kevin Feige. Executive Producers are Michael Helfant, Ari Arad, Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito and Peter Billingsley. Howard is represented by the William Morris Agency, managed by Shakim Compere and Victoria Fredrick of Flavor Unit, and his attorney is Stewart Levy.
