Meh, I prefer Permanent Waves to Moving Pictures, but it certainly isn't a bad album.

2112 is the 'classic' album; certainly not a bad place to start. It's not my personal favorite, but my personal favorite might not necessarily be the right recommendation anyway. (For that matter, I'm not even sure what my personal favorite is. Probably not one of the most popular ones. Roll the Bones and Power Windows are probably in my top three, which is subject to occasional change. Grace Under Pressure was the first album I heard, and The Body Electric is the song that made me a fan, but I wouldn't say those are my favorite album or song now.) Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are both excellent albums, of the two, I'd probably go with Moving Pictures.

2112, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, or Power Windows. I'm not gonna recommend just one in case it was the one you found disappointing.

Permanent Waves was the one I bought.

If that is supposed to be (one of) their best album(s), then a second attempt at Rush doesn't look promising.

Still, I'll download 2112 and give it a try. Not this very minute, but sometime.

Roll The Bones is an excellent, underrated album. I bought it completely without listening to it first based on how much the song "Show Don't Tell" kicked ass. I was rather disappointed to find out that the song wasn't on that album, but I was pleased with the purchase anyway.

I too am a (closet) Rush fan.
"Must have" albums ? ... that's tough, as there are good and bad on all.

2112 is good as a glimpse into the concept album they put together at a time when it was common (the good ol days )

I personally really like Signals. I can listen to that over and over again. And do!

Moving Pictures has many of their well-known hits.

Grace Under Pressure is another very good album throughout. Some very nicely composed and played pieces on that one.


Now, getting back to my obsession, King Crimson, the top % must haves from them are (in no order):
- In the Court of the Crimson King
- Lark's Tongues in Aspic
- Discipline
- VroomVroom (EP)
- The Power to Beleive

2) It Ain't Easy.

I'll put my foot down and say that "Boomtown" is one of the 5 best albums released during the '80s, if not all time. Far from not being a bad song on the album, there isn't a song that isn't outstanding on the album. It perfectly captures the late-'80s malaise in it's lyrics, and the music is damn near note-perfect.

Yes, it's really that good, and the song "Welcome to the Boomtown" is prolly the weakest song on the album, though still damn good.

Unfortunately, it's going to take months and a court battle for me to get my CDs back, so you may just want to pick that up.

Lucy and danlo... I really love Starless and Red ... from my favourite Crimso period, but I chose to pick an album from each of the destinctive line-ups.
I avoided the three albums after Court... as they are pretty good but just reflections of the first album.
And I think Lark's Tongues is the signature peice for that early 70's period.

Now if we are picking favourite songs of Crimso!.... whoo, don't get me started..

- Providence (an improve that made it on to an album ... classic!)

- Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With (this one is a funny track with great music...)


Yah, I like the instrumentals the best...

I can take or leave most of KC's stuff, but I love Adrian Belew's solo work.
