Alternatively, he might have been publicly acknowledging his wife's extreme vegetarianism. I've heard of cutting meat out of your diet, but sheesh...

I think that he just couldn't get a hand on the situation because he realized that his new girlfriend was Lorraine Bobbit.
He figured that he should just cut loose and get ahead of things himself.
