I told Hyperception about the suggestion of seeing Amadeus, and he was all for renting it tonight while Beorn's still away. I just didn't feel like a movie tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
That ballet sequence from An American in Paris is definitely amazing! I also love Singin' In The Rain. I always preferred Gene Kelly's athletic style to Fred Astaire's urbane dancefloor moves.Menolly wrote:As a huge Gene Kelly as a dancer fan...
Gene Kelly in the ballet scene from An American in Paris is one of my favorites (can't find a video link) as well as the singing and dancing routine to Singing in the Rain.
And not to forget Gene Kelly and Jerry Mouse in The Worry Song.
Hyperception wants me to add the prologue scene set to Also Sprach Zarathustra in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Also happy that Hyperception gave mention to 2001 and its great opening title sequence. Also Sprach Zarathustra and 2001 were a match made in, well, the cosmic heavens. Monumental music + monumental imagery = freakin' awesome movie moment.
I also love the title sequence of Kubrick's The Shining. From a high omniscient viewpoint the camera tracks the Torrance family car tiny in the distance as it winds its way around the mountains, all the while accompanied by the low, ominous music of Dies Irae.
Carly Simon's 'Let The River Run', in the closing scenes of 'Working Girl' - long pull-back starting from a single office window in one of the towers of the World Trade Center.
Amazing song, beautiful scene, and now a poignant reminder of a different America.

I'm one of those freaks who forked over the $45 for the complete score of the Extended Edition in hi-resolution surround sound. And that's just for the first movie.
