Amadeus is in my Top 10 movies. Fantastic! More because of Salieri than anything else. What a character! Very little historical accuracy to it, but excellent movie.

I take it seeing Amadeus is another "gotta do" along the lines of reading Earthsea and Neverness after I finish my journey to the Tower...?

Not quite. All of those should come before the Tower. Here it is:

Amadeus I mean, come on, it's a movie. Watch it in a night.)
Earthsea
Neverness
Malazan
Tower (Heh. I couldn't get into Tower. Others will likely disagree with me.)

wow!!! you too? i LOVE that man, simply love that scene. (owns the movie)

but here's MY favorite from Streets of Fire!

I Can Dream

and, i realize i'm the only person who liked this movie but i LOVE this scene from Magnolia

Yeah, yeah, yeah...

But I'm already more than halfway through the journey to the Tower. At least according to Av's list of essential books to make the journey.

And I see you have added Malazan officially to my list now.

*formally adding to my TBR pile*

Oh wait...I told Luci it was already on there...

I told Hyperception about the suggestion of seeing Amadeus, and he was all for renting it tonight while Beorn's still away. I just didn't feel like a movie tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Gene Kelly in the ballet scene from An American in Paris is one of my favorites (can't find a video link) as well as the singing and dancing routine to Singing in the Rain.

And not to forget Gene Kelly and Jerry Mouse in The Worry Song.

Hyperception wants me to add the prologue scene set to Also Sprach Zarathustra in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
That ballet sequence from An American in Paris is definitely amazing! I also love Singin' In The Rain. I always preferred Gene Kelly's athletic style to Fred Astaire's urbane dancefloor moves.

Also happy that Hyperception gave mention to 2001 and its great opening title sequence. Also Sprach Zarathustra and 2001 were a match made in, well, the cosmic heavens. Monumental music + monumental imagery = freakin' awesome movie moment.

I also love the title sequence of Kubrick's The Shining. From a high omniscient viewpoint the camera tracks the Torrance family car tiny in the distance as it winds its way around the mountains, all the while accompanied by the low, ominous music of Dies Irae.

Carly Simon's 'Let The River Run', in the closing scenes of 'Working Girl' - long pull-back starting from a single office window in one of the towers of the World Trade Center.

Amazing song, beautiful scene, and now a poignant reminder of a different America.

How BOUT!!! I love that score. Especially "Into the West" at the end... :gandalf:
I'm one of those freaks who forked over the $45 for the complete score of the Extended Edition in hi-resolution surround sound. And that's just for the first movie. The others are on my "to buy" list.

Two pieces always move me and I don't know why...no real associations or anything:

Main theme from "Out of Africa"

4 minute opera score written especially for "Hannibal" (Lector)
