Thanks for this -- I've been searching for this quote in the GI. What did he say about books 3 and 4 in this particular quote?

I may be the worst possible judge of my own writing. (Or not. Only time will tell.) But here's how I choose to look at it. "The Runes of the Earth" is the launch platorm. In "Fatal Revenant," the ICBM really takes off. Now the only question is whether or not I can keep up with what I've launched. <rueful smile> Later I'll worry about whether or not my missile is going to hit its target.

Sorry, sorry, I forgot the OP asked for no spoilers. I haven't done this in a while.

I'm a feeb, a drooling FEEB!
Still: I wish to revise my rating to 8.5 out of 10. Half a point added for reasons I shall not mention AT ALL.
*sigh*

I might be a little caught up in the moment since I finished it only 15 minutes ago,

but I'd give it an 8.5/10, and rank FR second over all among the eight books.

Runes: 6.5/10, possibly 7 (pre FR)
FR: 9/10, and then elevate Runes to 7.5 because now I know why he had to write Runes like that.

i find FR to be the most exciting, richly written book in this series since the end of the first chronicles.

Roller Coaster ride is a great analogy!

I read FR over the weekend and when I put it down... I was just blown away thinking over what was going on.
9/10..... could easily have gotten 9.5 out of 10 but Ive gotta leave room for the next two books!

I agree.. It is a roller coaster. But I'm now going to rate this a 10/10.
and I believe that SRD can made the next one a 10/10 +1.
Sorry but I am going above the scale because Donnelson can do it.

I put this one at a 9/10 - and the point deduction is for...
....having to endure "Covenant" being so cruel and cold in the first half of the book. Just made for very painful reading.

I liked Runes a lot better this time -- maybe because I knew FR was right around the corner.
Maybe 8/10 for Runes and (oh baby!) 9.5/10 for FR.
(I knew the guy in the 1st half wasn't Covenant but I couldn't figure out who he was...)

where does it rate with the rest of the chronicles?
what mark out of 10 would you give it ?
I've enjoyed immensely TROTE and FR. Give FR an 8 overall, a 9 for part 2 and a 7 for part 1.
Cuz of TC...
I considered it on a par with
The Wounded Land.
Best OMG part --- pp. 416-426, First Woodhelven.

Ard Rhys wrote:How about this? Those of you who read RUNES and REVENANT: What would you rate RUNES and then how would you rate REVENANT?
RUNES: 10 out of 10, due to the 20+ year wait.

I'm giving FR a 9 out of 10!
Point deducted for Anele's annoying uselessness (as I said in another thread, I'd shove the Staff of Law up his *** and leave him by the side of the road) AND my "so what" attitude toward Jeremiah. SO WHAT if Lord Foul has him? Others are suffering and there is a Land to save!
Other than those two small annoyances... WHAT A ROLLER COASTER RIDE!! The battle of First Woodhelven is worth the price of admission!!!
