2: We should slay her.
3: Slaying her is what we do.
4: ARE YOU MAD!?
5: See #1

And WF, I agree; she really have the chance to sit down and have some tea and crumpets with Longwrath to begin with. However, it did seem to me like she just sorta took him in stride and didn't pay him much mind.

Obviously Longwrath is just a huge fan of the band Slayer and wants Linden to bring him to our world so that he can catch them live. If my friends suddenly started restraining me and trying to keep me locked up I'd ask them if the were mad too. Also, who wouldn't want to bring their fav sword to a Slayer gig?

Regarding Longwrath's sword. Unless I misremember, it was forged by Kasryen prior to his creation of Sandgorgon's Doom. Perhaps at that point (presumably before he struck the deal with his croyel) he had been investigating the possibility of the croyel. His studies MAY have lead him to forge something that is related to the croyel. Could it be that this sword was meant to serve as some sort of insurance agaisnt he croyel if he lost cotnrol once the bargian was struck and that is has power again the creatures.

Such a weapon might could come in handy in dealing with Jeremiah's situatiion.

If Kasryen forged a weapon to control or slay the croyel, he might have forged it too big for him to handle. Longwrath is a Giant and the weapon he wields is Giant size.

I doubt that that Longwrath would try to whack Linden with something the size of a butter knife.

But it is interesting that he did go back to retrieve it. His madness compells him but he's a Giant. He could have squished Linden with his fists.

And like Romeo says: Longwrath would make the perfect icon for the THOOLAH group. Anybody up for some artwork?

Longwrath Wildwielderslayer saids: THOOLAH wants you!!!

I was thinking more along the lines of it being used to kill the Sandgorgons after they decide that they want to take over the world.

That's what it was made for.
Killing Sandgorgons.
Now we have a rouge squadron of Sandgorgons running around the Land.
Hopefully they won't end up like the "The Bishop" skit from Monty Python:

Exterior shot of beautiful Pebble Stonedown.
Birds singing, butterflies flying in the air.
Suddenly, sound of pounding earth shaking powerful feet roars towards the Stonedown.
A huge plume of dust follows several Sandgorgons and they stop on the center of the village.
The lead Sandgorgon runs to a home.
Behind him are four Sandgorgons wearing dark glasses, clerical suits and dog collars.
They all run toward the house.
As they do so the Ritual of Desecration is heard coming to an end.
Sound of people screaming and melting away.
Cut to interior of house.
Linden is surrounded in apocalyptic fire.
Cut back to exterior.
The Sandgorgons are racing through the doors.
Interior of house.
Linden destroying the Land.
Linden: "Melekurion Abatha.Duroc minas mill..."
Cut to lead Sandgorgon at doorway.
Lead Sandgorgon: "Not the Seven Words! Don't say the Seven Words of Power!"
Cut back to Linden.
Linden: "........Harad khabaal"
The Land explodes.
Linden disappears in smoke flame and power, flying up into the air.
Cut to close-up of the Lead Sandgorgon.
Behind him there is smoke and every one and every thing dying horribly. Sound of the Worm being roused in the distance.
Lead Sandgorgon: "We was too late. Linden bit the Earth."
The tip of the Sandgorgon's right fist suddenly starts flashing.
He lifts the flashing end to the air and it stops.
Using it like a telephone receiver, he speaks into his hand to the Creator.
Lead Sandgorgon: "Hello? ... What?... We'll be right over!"

Exterior shot of the Mt Thunder.
Crash zoom in to the Wightwarrens .
Cut to interior.
Foul's birthday party round a blazing bonfire.
An innocent ur-vile is handing Foul a box wrapped in black paper.
Pan across to the Ravers - a couple of Cavewights - and two Giants in drag.
As Foul takes the gift it starts to glow with white power.
Foul: "I'd like to thank you all for coming today. I can't wait to see what this could be......"
Cut to door of underground chamber.
The Sandgorgons rush in.
Lead Sandgorgon: "Don't do it Foul!"
Cut back to Foul.
Foul: Holding the white gold ring "I am free!"
Arch of Time explodes.
Cut to close-up of the lead Sandgorgon.
Lead Sandgorgon: "We was too late... Foul saw the light."

I have to tell this story...
You guys are seeping into my consciousness so much, my everyday life seems so connected to the Chronicles these days (even if my experiences are not the everyday type of thing).

I met Longwrath last night, and he was verrrry angrry.

So, it's around midnight and I go out to catch a taxi home. In Tashkent, any driver who elects to pick you up is a taxi. So this guy pulls over. I tell him where I want to go, I get in the front seat, and we're driving. There's a guy sitting behind whom I paid no mind to. Until all of a sudden, out of nowhere

he lunges forward and wraps both his arms around my neck and starts choking the bejeezus outta me. I squirm and go loose trying to free myself. I have no leverage. This Longwrath beast keeps coming stronger and stronger, breathing his rage on me in grunts of incomprehensibly drunk Russian. The driver pulls over in a screeching halt and begins punching the guy repeatedly in the face. This loosens his grip enough that I get free. Amazingly, somehow, the driver manages to kick the guy out of the car from the front seat. We take off with wheels peeling and Longwrath not even fully out of the car yet.

In the aftermath I couldn't help laughing about it. I couldn't help seeing Longwrath coming out of nowhere brandishing his sword trying to slay the Chosen. (And no, I'm not equating myself with the Chosen.)

Wherethefreakistan is a crazy place to live! :screwy:

I think Linden didn't inquire into Longwrath's goal for two reasons: she didn't want to know the answer, because she was going to resurrect TC no matter what. And, Longwrath wouldn't have been able to tell her anyway, since he only says two sentences.

I didn't think it was strange that she didn't ask about it. But I do think Donaldson should have at least put a sentence in there about her not wanting to know. Basically, the same thing he did with Sunder and Hollian's advice not to enter Andelain.

If Kasreyn made the sword but never used it, it was probably because the flaw made it too risky.

That just makes me wonder how much of a back story are we going to get about that sword, how it was made, if it was ever used...

I think only a giant could/would tell that tale.

I'm sure it's coming, though the giants seem to have told all they know about it.

I'm wondering if the flaw isn't something like a Catch 22. You'd have to be crazy to use it, and a crazy person wouldn't want it... or maybe just using it made you crazy. *shrug*

Going back to what made me think he was too afraid to use it:
Its imperfection is the very paradox of which the Earth is made, and with it a master may form perfect works and fear nothing.

I bet that since it was made by Kasreyn while he was under the control of the croyel, the sword itself does have some of that crazy built right into it.

I bet we'll meet other giants before it's all said and done, and they'll be the ones who'll tell us about it. I mean, we can't have just one male giant for the rest of the Last Chronicles. Especially not one who's mad and trying to slay Chosens all over the place!

I'm glad your okay, earthbrah. I hope that's not typical of life in the Uzbek.

Maybe he didn't put that sentence in because that wasn't what was hapenning?

We do not yet know why Linden was warned away from Andelain. Roger was also warning her out of Andelain, which would, under the circumstances, make her think that it is really a good idea to go there and see why. The others reasons could very from "you will destroy the world" to "it will make you sad", we don't know.

Yeah, that's the exciting thing about speculating over a series that isn't finished yet . . . none of us know. I hope I'm wrong about a lot of things, especially the things I don't like. This is really a good time to be a Donaldson fan. I'm glad I have all of you to debate this stuff! We're really lucky to have such enthusiastic, detail-oriented community of fellow Donaldson fans. :)

AMEN. Hailkiln Kevin's Watch and all it's posters!!!

And thanks for the concern, Wayfriend. No, that is not necessarily typical of life in Uzbek land. But then again, neither have any of my experiences been since coming here. It's been a lot of  with a bit of :x , and always peppered with a pinch of :screwy: . Sometimes it even makes you want to just :rocket: . But mostly these days I've just been :haha: .

Ok, sorry about the :offtopic: stuff. I'll stop now. 8)

OK

Longwrath.. While he was concussed, it is quite possible that he was someone that Foul 'whispered advice' to.. Though that doesn't make too much sense, as he doesn't want her dead.. yet. But maybe he DOES want some Giants to be in the land at this point.

I'm not convinced that Longwrath's after Joan at all, or after Linden soley 'coz she's got White gold.. The other thing is if he'd tried to kill her to prevent her ressurecting Covenant, now that she HAS done it what will he do? No point killing her now? Or maybe he'll try kill 'em both..

Linden DEFINATELY neesd some instrument to get croyels of people's backs.. And if that sword can't do it then Braithiir is probably a good place to find something that can.. THough someone mentioned that now will the Krill, as well as the Staff and White Gold, she could use the Power of Command again, and order the Croyel off..

Nah, Longwrath's just stuck in the skit from "Whose Line".

Drew says "Colin, you're the captian of a ship. These are your crew.... Ryan, you can only say the lines "I love you" and "Where can I find that?". Longwrath, your lines are "Kill Her!" and "Are you mad?!?!"

My precise thoughts. Adding fuel to the caamora is that the Flames of Andelain prevented him from entering. Surely SRD is misdirecting us when he creates such obvious stylistic and thematic links between Longwrath and Cable Seadreamer?
