I used to think Baldwin was a good actor, but not particularly noteworthy . . . until I watched his scene in Glengarry Glen Ross. He really stunned me in that film and, when I think of the archetype of the venomous, money-driven yuppie, I always think of that character. Then again, that film is jammed with truly amazing performances and characters.

On the other hand, Maggie Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes for the new Batman movie was wonderful news. (I adore the former and despise the later)

Do y'all feel there is a difference in replacing an actor in a movie sequel vs. a television series? My first exposure to such was on Dr. Who, but they have always made it part of the storyline, and usually in cliff hanging ways.

And of course, there have been the constant actor changes in soaps, even prime time ones...

I see no reason to make such a distinction, as for the example that Atomic asked for how about the character of Jack in the Riddick movies. I know that they had to replace the actor that played Albus Dumbledore due to a sudden case of death, but Im still not buying the new one.

Y'know, as much as I loved Richard Harris, and especially in that role, I must say I like the new Dumbledore better, mainly because I don't know him and think of Camelot. He doesn't take me out of the moment, and he's got strange little quirks I quite like.

As I've just been reminded, after watching an episode of Family Guy, what about the wrong sounding Muppets after Jim Henson passed away? Does it bother you? The guy that voices Fred Flintstone in commercials etc. is noticeably different as well. The original voice, Alan Reed, passed away in 1977 so it's not his fault. Heck Barney's voice, Mel Blanc, has also left us.

I can't watch The Muppets anymore. Once Henson died they just lost their magic. Same thing with any post-Blanc Looney Tunes.

I agree about Looney Tunes. You can't mess with that. I'd rather watch the original Duck Dogers and the 24th 1/2 Century over and over again before I can stand to watch any post Mel cartoons.

Holy crap! Henry Corden, who took over Fred Flinstone's voice after Alan Reed passed, has himself passed in 2005. I mean I didn't like his Fred but it's sad none the less. :-(

The new muppets don't bother me; actually, it's still Hensen doing them, just a different Henson (Chris, Jim's son).

I remain baffled by the change of Jack. The original Jack would have been the right age (since the time elapsed in the film continuity matches the real-world one pretty closely), so only two possibilities spring to mind: 1) The original didn't want to do it; 2) (more likely in my opinion) she wasn't considered attractive enough. After all, Jack was meant to be androgenous in Pitch Black, but as an adult that probably wasn't a desirable quality.

In the Wrath of Khan, the navigator (Lt Saavik) is played by Kirstie Alley. In the next movie, The Search for Spock, Lt Saavik is played by Robin Curtis.

Now that REALLY bothered me. I'm surprised I didn't think of that first thing. Thanks SB!

You don't notice because the change was dwarfed by III's other flaws :(

Regarding Rachel Weisz......Noooooooooooooooooo!

Please tell me it's a joke. Are they getting someone else to play Evie or are they just writing Evie out? Either way, pi$$ on 'em. They can just kiss my white feathered a$$!

They have an entirely new actress to play Evie.

I don't recognize her face, but IMDB says her name is Maria Bello.
