There are so many Batman movies, it's a little confusing. I thought they all pretty much sucked after the first one, anyway (although I haven't seen Batman Begins).
Batman Begins is orders of magnitude better than the older movies. Treat yourself to this one soon, so you can catch the new one at a theater packed with enthusiastic fans!

Malik was hiding under a rock that was three rocks higher on the rock pile than the one you were hiding under, apparently.

Just saw it.

I have never, ever liked costume heroes or superheroes, though I did like some of the earlier Batman films. I thought Batman Begins was very, very good, though the main sell for seeing this film for me was how compelling Ledger looked and sounded as the Joker.

I don't regret seeing it. It's excellent. The film is very polished, slick, and - for a change for a blockbuster action movie - actually doesn't rely off silly cinematic tricks to befuddle and confuse the senses. Its themes are somewhat over-stated and obvious, though not to the point of distraction.

However, even though there are a lot of interesting characters in this one
Spoiler
Aaron Eckhart as Dent/Two Face is absolutely great, and it was cool to see the Scarecrow back for a cameo.
the film is hands-down great because the Joker is such a great villain. Hype surrounding the tragic nature of Ledger's death etc aside, Ledger is absolutely mesmerising as the Joker. His performance never misses a note. So good is he in the role, that 1st rate actors like Oldman, Caine and Bale look quite wooden beside him.

My only criticisms of the film would be: 1 - I swear it must be cut. There were a couple deaths in the film which actually left me wondering "so...did he actually die?"
Spoiler
Particularly the deaths of one of the minor mob bosses (the black guy in the scene where the Joker first explains how he got his scars), and the accountant who sits atop the burning pile of money.
and 2 - like the first film, this one just seemed slightly anti-climactical.

Small points which don't really detract from this being solid entertainment. Go see it, by all means.

Australians get to see it first. It's due to the timezones.

Yeah, what he said, I guess :)

Usually, films come out on a Thursday here, but this was released on a Wednesday - maybe to coincide with some international date, though I wasn't paying attention.

And Ledger's performance transcends the hype, quite frankly :D

Wow....I've been reading through the negative reviews on rottentomatos, and it is from people that either really like Jack Nicholson's performance and can't accept a less cartoony one, or that it is too dark and grim. Or both. Which means I'm looking forward to this.

My wife and I decided we weren't quite geek enough to go to the Midnight Thursday local screening... we're holding out to go to the earliest Saturday matinee offered, so we can spring for popcorn without signing a mortgage.
Might need to buy advance tix for it, though...

That's going to be my dilemma. Not the advance tickets, but the popularity of the film. I don't like being in a crowded cinema. Do I endure it, or try to make myself wait a couple more weeks?

If there's one nice thing about being unemployed, it's being able to see flicks like this on a weekday morning or early afternoon. I was one of 2 people in the theatre when I saw Hulk, and there was less than a dozen today when I saw Hellboy. Iron Man was more crowded, but I had my kids with me for that one and didn't have the ability to focus on anybody else.

I don't mind a crowded theater--in fact, I dig all the energy--but I've GOT to have good seats. I'll go up to an hour in advance and wait in line for something special like this to make sure I get in the middle "sweet spot."

Don't get me wrong, I'm the first person to tell someone to shut the f*ck up if they won't stop talking. (Laughing is fine.) Oh, and the latest pet peeve: shaking their resonant bucket of popcorn to distribute the butter. Repeatedly. Over and over. And their coke. To get it really reeaally cold, I guess. GOD! I've got an extremely short temper for that kind of blatant disrespect. Luckily, he stopped before I exploded. Or maybe he heard Ki beside me do the same thing every time he did it, making fun of him, and got the message.

Quite simply, one of the most f*cking dumb movies I have ever seen.

Oh, and I'm talking about Slithis. ;)

As good as the first one was, I've got to say, this one surpassed the first in almost every way.

And I'm not spoilering a damned thing:
Spoiler
Go see this movie!
