Nearly all of the reviews I've read suggest that TDK is a MUST see regardless of you feelings regarding the Batman character. What is also clear is that the film might be the most brutal and frighteningly dark superhero movie to date. (I've seen toy tie ins for young kids. I wonder how many kiddies will actually end up seeing the film.) If I only see one other film this summer it will have to be TDK.

They posted a glorius review at AintItCool. Reading it, you'd feel like missing this movie was like stopping breathing.
I can say without any hesitation that THE DARK KNIGHT is a spectacular piece of storytelling, that it is as giant a leap forward from the first film as EMPIRE did from STAR WARS or that Godfather Part II did from the first, that all this talk of Heath Ledger being nominated for his work as The Joker isn’t just industry buzz capitalizing on the tragic and far too premature death of the actor. He will be nominated and he would have been nominated had he been alive to see the film open.
... Mark my words: Ledger will be nominated, Wally Pfister will be nominated, Chris Nolan will be nominated for direction, Jonathan and Chris Nolan for script and if the movie Gods are feeling kind early next year we might even see a Best Picture nom. [link -- spoilers if you don't know the batman mythos!]

I'm noticing a pattern in the tomatometer scores. They seem to always start at or around 88.
Anyway, I haven't seen or heard much of this film so far, but my film-obsessed friend thinks it's going to be the best superhero movie ever made and the best film of the decade. Then again, he has terrible taste, so who knows?

Wayfriend, that link isn't entirely spoiler free. For instance,
I wish the comic book guys would realize that not everyone reads comics as obsessively as they do, and thus what is common knowledge for them isn't common knowledge for everyone.
But that's not your fault. I read the review before you posted it. I just wanted to warn others here.
Spoiler
I had no idea that Two Face was in this movie, and I had no idea who becomes TF. I'm not a comic book reader, nor do I know all the back stories of the secondary characters. Now I'm going into the movie knowing the fate of one of the main characters--THE main character, if you take Quint's word for it--of this movie.

No problem! Like I said, my ire was directed at Quint, not you. He should have had a spoiler warning on there.
Anyway, I agree with you that his was an amazing review. I got chills reading that review. I'm so excited, we might even go see a midnight show Thursday, if that's available here. Time to rewatch the first one!

Yeah, you'd have to have been hiding under a rock not to have known that bit of information.......

How so? Has this character been in the trailers?dANdeLION wrote:Yeah, you'd have to have been hiding under a rock not to have known that bit of information.......
And the expected mocking of those who don't know the back story of secondary characters from comic books begins. Don't worry, mock away. I can take it.

I think it's funny that you equate a lack of actively seeking out information which isn't available in regular market campaigns as "hiding under a rock," or that anyone would consider the name of a secondary character from a mediocre movie made 13 years ago to be something that is generally known or remembered today.
Maybe I'm in the minority here. I wasn't trying to complain, just trying to warn others who might be equally as sheltered or forgetful as I am.

I didn't bother watching any Batman movies before Batman Begins but I guess that's hiding under a rock.dANdeLION wrote:Yeah, you'd have to have been hiding under a rock not to have known that bit of information.......

I just checked the official Dark Knight site, and not only is not shown in the official trailer, but he's not shown in the photo gallery, also.
And now that line aboutis completely ruined. Again, I'm not complaining about anything you guys have said here. You didn't spoil that info. But I do think it's a bit misleading to others like me, who don't know this detail, to suggest that this is common knowledge or you're a recluse if you don't know it. I really, really wish I didn't know that becomes a bad guy. And given that the movie makers themselves are HIDING this detail, it seems that's the way they wanted to movie to be seen.
Spoiler
Two Face
And now that line about
Spoiler
dying a hero, or living long enough to see yourself become the victim
Spoiler
the politician character

It's reactions like this that make you the Toast of the Tank, Malik. And Ki, your hubby doesn't need you to defend him. Just look in the Tank; he's quite capable!

Malik, if they made the movie for fans, then you gotta believe the journey will be interesting despite knowing the destination. I predict the movie is not ruined for you. (I'm trying to ease your concerns, not trying to disagree.)
And sometimes things are hidden in the trailers because the surpise is what it looks like. Like they never showed the Balrog in the FOTR trailers.

I'm sure you're right. I'm expecting a fantastic experience. I'm going to turn my sarcasm meter off and merely assume you are complimenting me. Thanks!dANdeLION wrote:It's reactions like this that make you the Toast of the Tank, Malik. And Ki, your hubby doesn't need you to defend him. Just look in the Tank; he's quite capable!

However, Ki wasn't taking up for me. We both work from home, so she sits a mere 15 feet away as I work (and procrastinate) on the computer. She hears me, ". . . grumble grumble . . . said I was hiding under a rock . . . grumble grumble . . . " and she gets curious enough to take a peek. And occasionally post. She's got more willpower than I do, when it comes to keeping her head in her work.
Which reminds me . . . back to work.

Heh! Well, I thought that Dark Knight was written by the dude who wrote that comic book that everyone loves, The Watchman. I didn't know Batman Begins was written by the same dude. There are so many Batman movies, it's a little confusing. I thought they all pretty much sucked after the first one, anyway (although I haven't seen Batman Begins).
