This morning over 800 hot air balloons filled the sky of all colors, shapes and sizes! It's the 1st day of the 2 week long Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta the largest gathering of balloons in the world!!!!!

Something like that happened in Rome when I was like 5 years old, but it was to a much smaller extent. I *think* I rode in one of the balloons but maybe that's just a false memory. Everything gets fuzzy as the years roll on, ya know . . . Must be that "all-timers" or whatever.

Oh - you really have some weirdly funny stuff in the states! But I still think the tomato-festival in Spain is even funnier

In sweden we just celebrate different kinds of biscuits and other unhealthy things all the time. And we do not even throw them at each other. We just eat one each and that´s it.

To my knowledge, we Nottinghamians don't celebrate anything in particular. Oh, the usual setting fire to things/putting up trees Days, but nothing out of the ordinary...

Well, its certainly not in the same class as Danlo's hot air balloon festival, but I spent the afternoon at the New Boston apple festival today. We came home with two kinds of fudge, a home-baked apple pie we bought at a church stand, and some apple cider. We walked through the booths of artists and looked at all of the things, and my little son, who has a cast-iron stomach rode some carnival rides.

Sounds like just my sort of festival

Eh, I don't like roller coasters. Feels like I'm going down the birth canal all over again.

MMMMMM FUDGE. Busch Gardens has a fudge shop with mucha fudge flavors. I really liked the orange creamsicle fudge. Yummy.

Today was the last class of the only college coarse I managed to get in this semester. It was a Women's Personal Development Class and it was designed for women who had not gone back to school in awhile.

It was very inspiring to see alot of these women in their late thirties and early forties going to school again after years of being oppressed housewives or working dead end jobs and hoping for something better. It made me feel a little like a crybaby because I am in no way oppressed and I still have a good chunk of youth ahead of me- yet I bitch about how it sucks that I waited ten years before going back to school. Just goes to show you that no matter how bad things are there is always someone out there who would kill to trade lives with you.

Today...um, I got The DaVinci code... such a good book. And I got to go shopping! (living in a small town sucks) mmm...shopping... I got a new mouth piece for my sax, I'm excited to use it!

I got out of bed!

Yesterday was so great!!! My landlady came by to let us know that we'd overpaid our rent by $300. We just renewed our lease, and they were running a special - renew your lease and get $300 off the 2nd month in your new lease. And we forgot and paid the whole amount! What a totally pleasant surprise!!

I know this is a very simple thing, but my older son's sweet little cat keeps jumping up on the keyboard for hugs and cuddles. He's a darling.
And I have made it through the week and get the next two days off, and can see my children! (my work schedule only lets me see them three days a week) )

Well yesterday I got this Comcast box that has 600 channels, about 50 of 'em movie channels or so. It's not satellite, either. Just this box with a crapload of crap on it. I'm guessing it gets the channels from a huge satellite in outer space, but who knows, eh? I'm just thrilled to see all the awesome movies. Caught Donnie Darko, then I watched Monster's Ball--both good movies.

On the literature side, I'm mulching through God Emperor of Dune, enjoying it more than any of the Dune books since the first one. I think I've read the nearly 1,500 pages in less than a month. Don't think I'll ever beat my record of 3,120 pages in around 20-odd days with the ASOIAF books, though. Anyway, I think Heretics of Dune or either Chapterhouse will beat out the original Dune for number one, in the end.

Today I introduced three guys to the wonderful world of VERTICAL caving and they loved it. Took one of the guys (the other two had to go home...awww) to a beginner vert cave and on the way down I saw sitting on a ledge a widdle live bunny wabbit (no kidding). A young cottontail that had gotten too close to the edge and fell in.
My buddy and I explored the cave and then enroute out we performed "Bunny Rescue!" Basically I went up and got a suitable pack and lowered it down to him. He (gently) caught the bunny and put it in the pack and brought it up and we took it out, examined it for injuries and saw that it was fine and walked a ways from the entrance of the cave (it's a 60' initial drop with a series of ledges so there was NO way it could've gotten out) and let it go. buh bye widdle bunny!

We felt good about that for some reason... (not a very MACHO-MAN thing to do...saving the lives of hapless bunnies facing slow death by starvation).
