mmm .. good point
however following TC and LA particularly around like a puppy is different from being able to be commanded to do something .. TC could never get Vain to do what he told him .. unless Vain already decided that was something he was going to do anyway

HT could sense him because he was blind, and when he arrived in the Land they chucked a bit of hurtloam on his eye areas, and he developed a keen sense of internal sight.

Troy was also able to view a HUGE part of the Land from Kevin's Watch, and see the Word of Warning at Doom's Retreat. He had some gooooooood vision!

But that was the answer, that's what actually happened.
He was blind, had skin grown over his eye sockets. Couldn't see. They applied hurtloam. He still couldn't 'see', but he got some inner sense of sight, I think it was based on the health-sense of the Land (I always forget about health-sense). He was able to sense the health of things and associate it with his mind's interpretation of what the objects were.
So he ended up with a form of vision. This was a different keen-ness because of his natural blindness, and because of assistance given to him by Elena in helping him learn and utilise the skill.
Obviously, Amok, gave out signals (aura) that HT's newfound abilities were sensitive to. he saw Amok as just a distuburbance in the atmosphere. He was seeing just the aura, or perhaps the health, of Amok.
