The key observation here is that 'You' have said everything that 'You' have to say. Do not then deny us newcomers the right to our say or deride that which we have to offer - or indeed be so narrow minded as to think that 'we have all ready said every thing worth saying on these subjects'. That way lies only the stagnation of all debate and is the ultimate killer of all forms of progress. It is indeed my hope that in 5000 posts time I will not be so tired as to be unable to summon up the interest to listen to SOMEONE ELSES views on subjects that I have been close to. And who knows - perhaps I may hear a new argument, see a new point that I had missed before. If I cannot approach it in this way then I will indeed think that it is time to sit my tired bones down and settle into a pristine copy of Brook's 'The Sword of Shannara'

Obviously I haven't expressed myself well. I
envy your ability to continue to find insightful things to say about this series, and your perspective of observing it anew. I was not criticisizing, but rather being nostalgic and complimentary towards previous posters whom I've "known" a long time. I would love for some newcomers to knock my socks off with a new interpretation. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened for many years (search for Plotinus's posts ... like
here). You are welcome to knock my socks off any time you wish. You may begin ...
now.

C'mon Zarathustra - by your own admission you have not been to this forum for ages so I'm sorry , the picture of you avidly scanning the new posts here for elegant insights you have missed won't wash; and I'm sorry Vraith - blowing guys aint my thing man, but I know a few sites where you might find ........

That's just silly.
The story hasn't been completed.
No one knows anything for sure yet.
And the GI constantly tosses new things at us all the time.

soft one wrote:Basically the Land was created when Covenant was born, and was fertile up until he contracted his leprosy, which coincides with when Lord Foul revealed himself.
More specifically, it coincides with the beginning of Covenant's self-hatred, which of course centered around his leprosy.

Not one of my posts, I'm sure. I only chime in occasionally with a tidbit or theory here and there.

Just because I don't post doesn't mean I don't check. But you're right, I don't check
avidly. I see threads like, "Best smelling or sexiest character" and think to myself: okay, I'm not missing much.
Please take my word for it ... I was being nostalgic, not critical. I wouldn't have bothered to post here at all if this thread didn't at least remind me of the good old days.

Perfectly fair comments on all points - spoken like a true Avestan sage

I think that the Chronicles are ambiguous enough that they can sustain discussion for a looong time... just not heavily sustained discussion
I'm also of the camp that there is no direct correlation between events in the Land and Covenant's life (i.e., I don't think the RoD happened when Covenant contracted leprosy and the like).

I will talk about the Chronicles any how, any when, any where.
When I post links to previous threads where something is already discussed, it's because sometimes people like to catch up on previous discussions. There's nothing wrong with starting a new discussion, because participating matters too.

Heh...I'll go with all of that. I have to say this place has me a little jaded, I guess...I let a lot of "neat idea, dude" responses I could make go by, or I'd never stop typing here cuz I can be a little long-winded, and I go off track, and I have to admit I have my "favorites" [peeps I'll respond to, whether agree or disagree, just cuz it's them...even though I don't really know them]. But I read every damn thing that's about the Chron.'s and think a bit about them.
Except sometimes Krazy Kat...if I think too much about those ones, sometimes I weird myself out, and I don't want anyone to think I'm weird.
No one does, do they?

As an all too infrequent visitor to the Watch I think it's great to see each new wave of posters, bringing in their own views or wanting to challenge those who have gone before. There could never be enough words read to make me not want to come back.
As a fantasy reader commencing in the 50's I look back and wonder what marvelous unexplored avenues may have been discovered had there been something like the Watch then!!!
Bravo peter. Regardless whether your posts knock our socks off or merely re-hash a thought from the past, it doesn't matter. I guess if we were sitting in some smoke filled, grass thatched long haus, a thousand years ago, we would tell and re-tell the stories of old and from them would grow the new ones.
Of course, bravo Zarathustra; thus have you spoke and a challenge has been laid.

HA, that was the funniest comment I've read in a long time. Actually I've found that this is one of the few decent forums around, and no I'm not a "pure one". Or are you talking about Foamfollower after the incident with the lava?

Hmmm...I'm not sure if that's funny as hell, or someone pissed in someone's cornflakes...

I probably still have the most posts in this forum. But I barely post here now. It's just that I've said most everything I had to say. Two or three or four times, even.

The burning need that I'd had for 15-20 years to discuss TCTC was satisfied. But I pop in now and then.

Fist, I've been posting/reading again in the Runes dissection. I've been really impressed with some things you said originally (2004-2006). It's fun reading that stuff knowing what we know now.
I don't know if you guys have been reading the AATE forum, but I posted there that now is a good time to start our rereads. Good summer project for the release of AATE. And as it relates to this discussion, I think the new books are some of the most fertile ground for finding new insights, given that SRD is reinterpretting his own work. I invite everyone to join me. I'm only a couple chapters into Runes.
