Yes Relayer - Booker does mention Joseph Campbell as one of the primary scources for the idea behind the book in his prologue (I started reading it again last night as my interest was re- aroused by our exchange).
I agree with Vraith that the scheme is reductionist and yes that any generalisation like this does ignore the particularity and of course tends to be more encompassing as it becomes more generalised. In fairness to the guy I neglected to give the full title of the book which was 'The seven basic plots - why we tell stories' and I think it is the second part that Booker is using his 7 plots idea to build up to and I'm ashamed to admit I never got that far with the book on my first (many years ago) reading. The Comedies, Tagedies problem had occured to me also but I seem to remember that this is something he deals with by finding (even more!) recdutionist ways to tie them in to the other groupings. And yes Orlion - I see no reason why 'role reversal' would not, in the archetypal theme world of things, constitute a grouping of its own - well done for spotting that! :D
President of Peace? You fucking idiots!

"I know what America is. America is a thing that you can move very easily. Move it in the right direction. They won't get in the way." (Benjamin Netenyahu 2001.)

....and the glory of the world becomes less than it was....
'Have we not served you well'
'Of course - you know you have.'
'Then let it end.'
