Don't read old posts. You'll just get older, and there will be more posts. Many a good poster has fallen by the wayside, trying to get caught up.

Just dive in. You'll get used to it.

(Also, most of us have no qualms repeating ourselves. )

Hmmm, maybe different if you're talking about the Chrons posts and dissections.

I sometimes forget this place exists because of them. (I tend to spend my time here otherwise engaged.)

That happens to a lot of us who have been Watchers for awhile. Especially those involved in either the 'tank (my advice is to stay far, far away from the 'tank, Iolanthe. but, that's just me.), Mallory's (ditto), and GT, if you are in to role playing. (do come join us there, if you are in to role playing) Syl has just started a new game there called Acropolis 2.0 that there is still time to get in on, if you want.

No time. I have a very time and brain consuming hobby, have a couple of important positions with a voluntary organisation allied with that hobby, and involved in a 30 year project also allied to said hobby. Three days a week I go out and gather more work, mine and from other volunteers who help me, and it takes more or less the rest of the week (days and evenings - although I do fit in the odd bit of housework and visiting grandchildren ) to get ready for it all to start again the next week. Occasionally I catch up with myself and have some spare time. I've been purposely cryptic, as, because of what I do, my name is known in at least 4 continents and I don't want to mix hobby with this, my respite and "something different".

I'm an avid reader - anything from ancient Mesopotamian history to detective fiction, but the Chronicles grabbed me in the way nothing did before. So, this is MY space.

My other respite is any game where I aim something that hits something else. Mind numbing, but relaxing at the end of the day. Just wish I could get past level 34 of Bubblez!

You will find the GT folks can be...hmm, how shall I put it...insistent. I've been resisting them (and the World of Warcraft contingent -- yes, we've got one of those, too!) for years now...

I used to play a game called Settlers, suppose that was role play, but then they "improved" it and it got too complicated for me. I enjoyed being a Roman, building houses, forts, making weapons and other things. But that was about 20 years ago! And I know I would get addicted and everything else would fall apart!

Ah, for a second I thought you meant Settlers of Catan...but that's not exactly a roleplaying kind of game, and is a lot simpler than what it seems you were doing.

The Settlers I played was great - in fact my daughter has it but I don't suppose it will work on Windows 7. There were Romans, Egyptians and - something else, can't remember, and different scenarios that you could play. When I had my speccy (with tape recorder and b/w telly for a screen) we had a brilliant game, I can't remember the name, with tennis balls jumping about a big warehouse - sounds daft, doesn't it - dos of course. I remember a brilliant game called "chucky-egg" - my children loved it. All pre PC of course, pre amstrad as well. My most favourite game of all was Aquanoid. It can still be downloaded, but didn't work very will with XP and haven't tried with Windows 7.

You can install a program called DosBox that's a Dos emulator. Lets you play pre-windows games.
