I received all my wisom teeth. one came in sideways and i had it for years since i could not afford to get it fixed. when i worked for the State of New Hampshire they removed it. had to go under so the could break it and tear it out.

when i moved to texas the other three had to come out along with a top and bottom molar on the left side.

An adult should have 32 teeth with 8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars, and 12 molars which include the four wisdom teeth.

so i now have 26. plus i had a root canal at age 16 or so and that tooth has little tooth still present on the topside. every few years they have to replace all they have filled it with.

my teeth suck - i have to use a special rinse. and brusha brusha brusha way more than any of you. pity me.

I've got spaces on the bottom where two permanent molars were supposed to be, but weren't. Several decades ago, I had a dentist tell me that I needed to have bridges put in, or else my other teeth would migrate to fill the gap and would fall over and my bite would get all messed up and all sorts of other dire things would happen. I didn't get the bridges. Still waiting for things to shift. (I mentioned this once to my current dentist, who I've been seeing for years now. He shrugged and said, "Sometimes we're wrong." )

I'd still have mine if it had been up to me, since they never bothered me. Navy dentists decided otherwise the second time I enlisted, though, and took them all out at once. The shot of anesthetic hurt more than the procedure, but it sure felt weird when they had to crack my bottom ones in half to get them out. I walked about half a mile or so back to the barracks afterward. All I got was Vicodin. I don't really like Vicodin. It makes me slightly itchy, and 800 mg of Motrin did more for the pain.

The recovery wasn't that bad, though I hated eating breakfast the first couple of days. The taste of blood doesn't go too well with cold chow hall sausage and hashbrowns.

My sympathies and congratulations, man.

I don't know that that's statistically true. My daughter had all four of hers out at once and had no problems. And I know many women who also had no problems. Come to that, my son had no problems, either.

I have all four of my wisdom teeth. There was room in my mouth for them, but my teeth got very close together after they came in and it's really hard to get back there to keep them clean. I suspect I would have had a lot fewer dental problems over the years without them.

On the other hand, I've seen wisdom tooth removal on a list of some of the procedures that are often done unnecessarily. I don't know the truth of that, either. Both my kids needed them out.

Magickmaker had all four of hers out at once, I think. Batty's still got all of hers.

my problem is that it takes lots and lots of Novacaine to make me numb. at least twice what other people get. my present dentist is excellent but has suggested that i might be better with a dentist who puts you out.

(better for him too - i am not a 'good' patient.)

when i had the root canal at age 16 or so? i kept telling the dentist i could feel it. he didn't believe me. i felt everything he did. he wasn't going to give me more Novacaine no matter how much i begged. so i gripped the chair hard and endured. not good times.

When that happened for me they put braces in, to move other teeth across into the gap and also use the space to pull forward one of my incisors that was slightly behind the other teeth. I have bigger than normal gaps around my remaining premolar on the left side now that are hell for getting bits of meat stuck in them.

Hey, I didn't post mine until he asked for it.

I had an accident when I was a kid, and mad a massive tear/hole in my gums below my bottom front teeth. The pain numbing substance they used did not do much for the pain, and I was crying and miserable, but they didn't believe me. But really, I had been in so much pain for the day and a half before that, it didn't matter.

When I had a molar removed, the dentist gave me a ridiculous amount of Vicodin, which is bad because I am a drug addict, but it made me happy. I have a hole in a wisdom tooth right now, I can feel the jaggies with my tongue, but when I went to a dentist, I was waaay overcharged for everything, and they told me that they couldn't remove my wisdom teeth anyway, and I would have to go to an oral surgeon.

I am terrified of the day when the pain will come.

All of this dentist talk has jinxed me. I have a filling in a back tooth that broke last night.

On the bright side, I like my dentist. He looks like a slightly hotter version of Willam Dafoe.

I only had 3 wisdom teeth...had them all removed under general anaesthetic years back. I didn't have any problems...took the stitches out myself in a bar 3 nights later, between shots.

torture actually. wanted to punch that dentist.

i was so happy when years later a different dentist told me i would be out for the impacted wisdom tooth. i woke up half way through that and he gassed me again.

I had 2 wisdom teeth out when I was 11, plus another 4 that were growing above and below my other teeth (like dracula). Apparently I have a small mouth, or was it big teeth? They had to dig down for them and I looked as if I was blowing my cheeks out for a few days afterwards. It was just before Christmas and I was supposed to be singing in the school choir the night I came out of hospital. I went to the concert to listen, but was asked to sing (probably because I was the only contralto who could sight read). Had the remaining two out when I was 18, with a valium injection. Apparently during the treatment my jaw got out of line, and it wasn't put back properly. It still makes a noise when I eat, 40 years later. In fact, today it has been sticking more than usual. I'm terrified that one day I won't be able to close my mouth at all

I wouldn't have told you this of course before you had been to the dentist!

Don't go any more - had all the rest out 15 years ago.

Iolanthe -- my older daughter wants to do what you did 15 years back. She's only 25 (well, she'll be 25 in about two weeks) but her teeth are in terrible shape.
