50 Books in 50 Weeks!
Moderator: Orlion
oddly, i may have already done this. LOL!! i can easily read at least a couple of books a week or more and probably have done in the last 50 weeks.
if i look back at my kindle fire carousel (where the most recent books i've read reside) i've read:
all 16 of Lee Child's jack reacher books (twice)
all 4 of matthew stover's caine books
king's wind through the keyhole
esselmon'ts orb scepter throne
all 8 of craig johnson's longmire series
wild by cheryl strayed
why be happy when you could be normal by jeanette winterson
karin slaughter's fallen
and i'm about to finish the quiet game by greg iles.
thats fifty and i'm fairly certain that's just my last say...12 weeks
(just to be conservative) reading. thats 4.16666666 books per week!
of course reading the reacher series twice prolly disqualifies me huh.
actually i read 2 or 3 of em more than twice. i love reacher.
oh WAIT...i also, somewhere in there, read joe hill's first book...heart-shaped box, and a couple of short stories by lee child and s king and j hill that were
in the recent issue of Esquire, oh yeah and the scottish prisoner by diana gabaldon and heinlein's the door into summer.
ok
i'll stop now...

oh yeah..and holsety...i play WoW. every night.

As the last post implied (but as I apparently haven't actually mentioned anywhere on here), while I'm not updating a list in this thread, I am posting thoughts on each book under the Book-A-Week tag on my blog (all posts numbered).

(And I'm also tweeting each post as it goes up.)

Thanks to the Mods for Sticky-izing this!! Reading Lord Foul's Bane really threw off my timing; I just can't devour those books, have to savor them. *shrug*

This month, I'm focusing on Hispanic works, with a few in Spanish... that's going to slow me down a bit, but the idea is to enjoy books to the max!

Was slowed down quite a bit by The War of the End of the World by Mario Vargas Llosa. Seems odd to say, but I think I'll be reading Don Quijote in Spanish faster then that ponderous (though excellent) tome.I'm Murrin wrote:This thread's gone quiet. How are folks doing? I've finished my 10th book, and will be starting the 11th tomorrow.

I was slowed down by re-reading the 1st Chronicles. I "should" be at 37 books by now, and I'm only at 34. Started reading the His Dark Materials series and really enjoyed The Golden Compass. I was living under a rock in Vermont when these came out and didn't even hear of the books till the film came out. I thought it was a beautiful film (and nothing with Sam Elliott in it is ever a total loss) and liked the book even better.
Besides the books I'm reading in full, I read a lot of nonfic material for lesson preparation-- articles, sections of books, and of course the Bible, constantly. So that eats into my enjoyment-reading time as well.

I've been doing badly. I missed a week around when I was going on holidays, and didn't catch up; then I missed the last three weeks, too. Should have finished book 17 already, instead I'm reading book 14 and struggling to write a review of book 13.
I'm tempted to go back on my decision not to include comics and graphic novels, because I could add 7 or 8 to the list...

It'll be interesting to see what you think of those. I found the second one to be the best one.deer of the dawn wrote:I was slowed down by re-reading the 1st Chronicles. So, I went from being seven ahead to three ahead. Re-started No Country For Old Men yesterday, and am about half-way through that. Have it on audiobook, but don't travel as much as I use to.
I'm also almost done with Forge of Darkness and halfway through A Storm of Swords. The main challenge now is to stay focus and knock these books down on their a$$e$.

Deer is catching up to me... this must not happen!
Looks like after I finish the Pilocene Exile saga, I would have finished the goal! Hu-rah! Then, two more books before I finish my own personal goal. And Ulysses somewhere in there.

They were. According to the person who introduced them to me, in comparison the Milieu books are worthless... also, apparently the "real" story does not even begin until The Non Born King.Avatar wrote:I'm just about to start The Golden Torc. So far, I preferred the Milieu books, but maybe because the style was more modern. (They were written afterwards weren't they?)

Success! And with about a month to spare, I should be able to easily reach 54 books this year![/b]
