Insert yourself into their conversations. They can't tell you to mind your own business, after all. Tell him his hair looks good, his manageress is a bitch, and to say Hi to his mom for you.

Personally, I'm mostly able to shut out any intrusive noises in the world around me, especially if I'm busy doing something.

Other than that, I finally got a smart phone last year. Quite frankly its a double edged sword. The world is at your fingertips (for a price) but its addicting..... If I want to detach from it, I have to leave it in the car or at home or I find myself browsing the web and answering emails and texts. I am very close to a point where I'm just gonna go back to my flip phone. I used to laugh at people who were on their phones all the time.. "Now I are one"... LOL
