12A in UK ratings (children must be accompanied). Lots of death and destruction but no blood. It's a slightly grim take, despite the ridiculousness of the story.

Saw it, it was great.
I liked the radiation story concept.
Godzilla's history needed more details though.
I mean...he's the "balance"? the hunter when these things are on the surface? That whole idea was really weak. but it works for me.

Needed a more of the big guy though.
The great fight action in last 10 minutes should have been peppered throughout the movie.

AND......THERE WAS A LITTLE JAPANESE BOY WEARING A RED HAT AND SHORTS RUNNING AROUND!!!

I saw it and liked it as well.

The first 45 mins or so are kinda drag-gy, but once the big fight starts, it's great from there on.

Godzilla prying open the Muto's mouth and breathing fire directly down her throat. Awesome!

HLT, I just took the balance thing as the way nature is. Something or other keeps everything in check. Maybe food supply, maybe predators, etc. Sometimes pressures from multiple directions keep a thing in check. I didn't take it as Godzilla being a thing that was intentionally designed, by nature or God or whatever, to keep them in check. More like cobra and mongoose.

Shame about the 12A rating [though I'll still go along]. My guess is that in the days of DVD and home cinema, most kids are more than capable of coping with a Godzilla movie [not that I necessarily condone that state of affairs] - but there you have it.

Was it a film where the 3D is used to great effect? I often find the films I see in it a bit visually muted or dark in appearence and tend to avoid it unless I'm getting feedback that it's a real addition to the film [read 'Gravity'].

Nothing stopping people still taking kids if they think they'll be okay with it. That's what the 12A rating's for.

I didn't see it in 3D.

There's nothing specific to point at, but the 3D brings out a general sense of scale and enormity which enhances the experience. The director puts together a good number of "awe" shots, and the 3D makes them a bit awe-er. I would say see it in 3D if you can ... and on a really big screen if you can. It's a bit sweeter.

I finally got to see it today. I rather liked it. It had the feel of some of the earlier Godzilla movies. Bryan Cranston was underutilized, though.

I went with the flow, and didn't let plot inconsistencies bother me, it's not the kind of movie to take that seriously, but:

I had to laugh at how the casinos gave warning that they had a visitor coming to town. I'd have also hated to be one those people who were working in that high rise office building. I think they had a little forewarning that Godzilla and friends were coming to town.

I love that man to man moment Godzilla had with the Japanese scientist near the end.

I'd never seen a Godzilla movie before this one. I always thought that Godzilla would be the badest bad guy and he would be tearing stuff up because he was totally a monster. I was disappointed that Godzilla was a good guy. I wasn't a big fan of the movie. How many times will the golden gate bridge be destroyed in movies? Somebody has to realize that it's getting old. I'm not saying it was bad, but it definitely had some silly moments.

Godzilla has become a cinema institution now - it *has* to be done every decade or so just to keep the continuity going if for no other reason, but yes - a new take on the old formula might be the way forward.

I would love to see Mark Jacobson's Gojiro made into a movie. "Imagine that the movie reptile was portrayed, not by a person in a rubber suit or a special-effects doll, but by a live, 500-foot-tall lizard with human intelligence and a pessimistic disposition."

We watched this friday night. Oh my (but not in a good, Fifty Shades of grey way... no, not that sort of oh my at all). This is one of the worst movies I've seen and actually sat through. The last worst film was Life of Walter Mitty. That was probably worse than godzilla because at least this one was just meant to be fun fun.

Anyway, didn't enjoy it at all.

Saw it on dvd the other night [probably a mistake, should have sprung for a theatre ticket] and was mildly entertained - but in a luke-warm way. I don't know; it was all in place, should have been good but......

That's my ultimate take on it. I saw it in theatres in 3-D, was entertained... but I don't think I would ever watch it again.

I'm curious what you were expecting. You were aware that this was a monster / disaster flick, right?

I like scary movies, thrillers and so. I was expecting it to be at least mildly entertaining.
