:LOLS:

Speaking as somebody who has had to hire people from time to time, I would chase you out with a stick if you turned up to apply in person. (Not you personally obviously, just "you" in general.)

Also, since every job ad generates literally hundreds (sometimes more than 1,000) responses, most of which are chancers, I can't respond to everybody.

The ads we put out say "if you haven't heard from us within 30 days, please consider your application unsuccessful."

Obviously this varies by industry, but I suspect lots of places do the same.

Ah well, bad luck Peter...something better will no doubt arise. ;)

 Oh my work is valued well enough - to the extent that they leave as much as they can for me to do as possible.
Your politicians screwed you over and you are suprised by this?

It's been several years since I've been responsible for any type of hiring, and even back when I was, it wasn't at any place that would get hundreds of applications. And far fewer qualified applications. One of my favorites was an application that had a space where people could list any 'special recognition'. We got a few back where people gave descriptions of themselves, I guess so we could... recognize them. One guy just put down 'brown hair, average height'.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

Trouble is when you reach my age it begins to count against you. Employers think you're just burning up the last few years prior to retirement and respond accordingly - and in the final analysis I guess they're right.

I'm in the same boat, peter -- hence my comment about the likelihood of retiring from the current job. :(

Caam, good luck with your job search!

Yeah, it certainly becomes more difficult. Majority of people I work with are still in their twenties. Also the industry I'm in tends to gear itself to a younger crowd I guess.
