hahahahahaha.... sedentary is right up your alley then

not for me - far rather be out and about .. horses for courses isn't it? But at least your doing what you prefer .. life's too short to be stuck in a dead end job you hate with a passion!

Heh. My 53rd birthday is next month. 50 something doesn't feel or look old to me. Maybe when I reach 85 like my mom I might think of myself that way but she doesn't so probably not.

I love ageing actually and I don't feel any different. Retirement has been the best thing though for me... I left as a desk jockey - predominantly sedentary but now with the property to work on each day Ive lost unhealthy weight and feel great. Like your wife Ive battled chronic pain following an injury I sustained and the last few years of my job I was taking heaps of medication just to keep working lol
Ive weened myself off almost everything now (from 8+ 2 x daily) to one (1 x daily). Postural hypertension was a big issue - its less of an issue now.
I'm much happier working for myself and with animals and outdoors than sitting in an office with artificial light. Don't have any of the stressors anymore either.. I highly recommend it ..

Looking at being a government employee for the next decade and a half so it is unlikely I will be able to escape the soul sucking fluorescent lights above my desk.
However I am very happy to hear of the improvement in your health and life style. My genuine hope is that it continually gets better and and even more enjoyable for you.

Zero worry - yeah not so much work as pleasure

.. in my line of work anyway
I've worked my whole life for a pay check and this is 100% better .. but at your age and time in life ..we could never have done this. Insufficient financial security

but public service work paid off and now we serve ourselves

and our furry feathery clients
Totally not for everyone .. but it is for us.

Aging is relative. I feel a lot younger than I did 3 years ago, having lost 35 lbs and regaining the ability to run. I am also off meds.
As to work, I like working with kids. They're cool and fun and I love seeing them learn stuff. They're also aggravating and exhausting, but isn't any job worth doing? I've been on sabbatical (fundraising) since May and looking forward to being back in the classroom in a month!! Aaannnnd I'll be dying for summer break in about 3 months, but I really am happier when I am busy and productive and have structured time.

I started my early adult life teaching - loved it!
But policing caught my eye and my path took a very different turn ..
I love that you can't wait to get back to it!! I truly believe teaching and educators in our society perform the greatest and most valuable public service.

In the fondest way possible, and tongue firmly in cheek, I must point out that Deer is also (what's the verb? Missioning? ) to those poor unfortunate souls, but we don't hold it against her.

Education the last great bastion of civilisation
Whats "missioning"?

They're missionaries.

Ministering to the benighted heathen of Africa, bringing the glory of God and western civilisation to the backward tribes-people etc. etc.
(I'm really just teasing Deer here, but that doesn't mean it isn't true...

)

Yikes, when I first joined this board I would've been in the first age group or so. Now I'm in the 4th one! Time flies.

My wife and I hike in the mountains all the time. We pick about 50 cups of blueberries when it's that season. Going through all that effort, and having the best blueberries there are (actually, I could never stand the ones in the store, so these are the only blueberries I eat), I couldn't bear the thought of putting them in a frozen, store-bought crust. So now I make my own pie crust. It really adds to the pie! Not just blueberry, but also my beloved pecan, coconut custard, and whatever.
