The rest of the Gap, (or most of it anyway) is not such a fast read. Book 2 is pretty fast, but the rest are quite involved. His best writing ever as far as I'm concerned.

GotM is good, but it can be a bit confusing the first time round. There's no hand-holding in the Malazan Book of the Fallen. (Sky, get yourself together and read it...they're damn good. We have an Erikson forum here.)

Feist is great, but Faerie Tale is not one of his best in my opinion.

As for Terry Brooks...we don't discuss him.

Personally, I tend to think that people starting off with the Malazan books would do better reading Night of Knives first. It's sorta a prequel to GotM.

I didn't understand what the hell was happening in GoTM until I'd read the next 3 books, then went back and re-read it. (Your mileage may vary. )

Other people say not to read the prequel first, but I think it does help.

Either way, I envy you starting that journey. It's a hell of a one, but like the Gap, ultimately worth it.

I read the Faerie Tale book by Feist and really liked it. The beginning was slow, but it all paid off in the end. Right now, I'm finally reading Gardens of the Moon and liking it so far.

Fun fact: locations and some folk in that book are real/near real, and right by my house. [].
Heh...it's almost as much "Based on the True Story" as the films and TV that call themselves that

In the area, there are more adults than should be allowed that believe in things fae, tarot, crystal, etc. I'm sure that's why author chose the region...though I'd be interested in how discovered the info. It's been so long...is it mentioned anywhere in acknowledgements or whatever, and I've forgotten?
