I've heard the band Earshot on the radio a couple times now. They sound strikingly similar to Tool circa Undertow.

Techno/House is cool. Ever heard of Fat Boy Slim? Love that dude...also any ddr music is cool. Linkin' Park rocks. Great poets they are. Good Charlotte and Foo Fighters too. I also like...Eminem! Don't hate me, I'm a good person please quit throwing rocks!

I listen to many things, but none of them fit neatly into your categories so I chose other.

:D U kno I love u FMI, but if I had 2 pick my first 3 "musicians" 2 walk the plank the 2nd would b Snoop DogeatDog (the convicted murderer) and the 3rd would b M&Ms (I have never listened 2 his music but his "views" completely piss me off). "Freakazoid" Michael Jackson would already be in the water w/ mucho charks y pee-rahnas! 8O

Tool's got it right. They're the most transparent mainstream band out there. They're not on total request live, selling phones or cola, they don't even appear in their own videos, and if any of em have ever been arrested, you don't hear about it. The only thing public I've ever seen them in is an interview in Spin. Basically, they don't do anything that detracts from their music..

That being said, I don't care what musicians do or say. I care about their political activism as much as their rap sheet. Hell, over 90% of my favorite musicians are or have been junkies.

Eminem's great. Snoop has style. MJ hasn't been a relevant musician since '92. Seriously, Danlo, who would you rather have? 50 squeeky clean Britney Spears or 1 gadfly like Eminem (or, for a different example, Cid Vicious... Rick James?... Jim Morrison... ok, not great examples, but...)?

And Freakazoid was one of the best cartoons ever. ;)

I hear u Syl, and like u some of my fav musicians r drug addicts, or dead from drugs. My fav musician is Neil Young, no saint, but a non-commercial survivor (Needle and the Damage Done). Like the arguement in pro-sports no I don't think musicians have 2 b 'role-models' but I do think they have 2 b held responsible 4 their own actions. Even tho drug addicts can deeply wound their own families their primary damage is 2 themselves--not 2 society as a whole. I, personally, c no style in Snoop (2 me he is a lizard eye-ed thug), having a convicted murderer who has made a joke of the justice system out on the streets making zillions of $s off our children is just not my cup of tea--despite the debate I am convinced MJ is a child-molester--M&M advocates hate, facism and homophobia. No (just my opinion mind u) when u inflict ur views and active pain on those outside urself and in a public 4rum u should b held accountable by society not rewarded by it. (what I say above was mostly on the joking side--but I guess I'm reacting anyway...)

I fall solidly into Rock, Classic Punk, some alternative/new wave stuff and a bit of pop here and there.

Rock, 90s alternative, and Metal. I've been known to listen to techno, rap, irish folk, and occasionally some classical music.

Since there isn't an 'everything except Rap' option, I chose Rock. Rock, Metal, and Blues are probably my top three. While I've never really seen myself as being into Alternative, there are a few bands I like that would probably fall into that genre.

ill listen to anything. i reckon alternative is closest to what id describe as my fave type of music but thats pretty general. and after all my no 1 band of all time is the clash and they were punk, alternative, dabbled in reggae, some hip-hop influences etc.

I went for metal, System of a Down are one of my favourite bands, another of my favourites are Thrice.

And of course Rage Against the Machine, all time best ever band.

Rage had some great music, but I could never stand the lyrics or vocals. I mean, they go on a big label like Sony yet he still sounds like he's chewing the mic at some underground club. *shrug*

For political rock I'll take Bad Religion, Ministry, or even Megadeth. System of a Down is good, but you can't take them too seriously.

Haven't listened to too much Thrice, but I'll give them credit for the double bass.

I love classic rock, but I do not like what passes for rock today. I love 80s music since that's what I grew up on. I love classic country, but for the most part anything since Garth Brooks isn't very good, IMHO. I voted other, since bluegrass wasn't an option, and that's where my heart lies.
