Hmm, while Marvel may have the "classics" it lacks the trancendent titles that DC had in the late 80s early 90s. Marvel also lacks Batman, the coolest superhero of them all, so it's DC hands down. DC's Vertigo line alone holds up the entire company, what with Swamp thing, Hellblazer, and my namesake, The Sandman. Dont forget the Watchmen also people.

Dreaming, opinion is fine, but not fact. But, this is: Spidey will kick Batman's arse any day of the week!

I have to second dANdeLION's opinion. Now if Batman somehow manages to acquire superpowers of some kind (the proportionate strength and flying ablility of a Bat per se) then we might have something to compare. Unfortunately the World's Greatest Detective, though brilliant and one tough son of a gun, is no match for the Web Slinger. I think a more just match up would be one of Marvel's powerless heroes. Hawkeye or the Punisher. The concept of a genius but powerless man pitted against a superhero who can lift a car above his head reminds me of the old animated short "Bambi versus Godzilla". I think that lasted all of 5 seconds on screen. No real offense meant toward the Batman character. He's actually one of my favorites.

Maybe that's why I like DD so much! He's quick, but he's not "incredible". He somehow survived meetings with Spidey...

Daredevil kicks a**. Of course, he was at his coolest when Frank Miller was writing him. (he is the guy who re-invented Batman with Dark Knight Returns.)

I am not saying Marvel comics are bad, I just don't think they have anything as deep as the Sandman or the Watchmen.

If you are talking about classic, guys in spandex comics, Marvel probably wins out. I have just been disillusioned with them lately. How many times can you kill of a main character and then bring them back later? I seem to recall nearly all of X-Factor dying and being reborn at some point. Even good old Aunt May was killed off for a few months, but it was some kind of "alternate universe." In the Silver Age, marvel was definitely the best comic book company, but these days it's getting a little lame.

And about Batman, well, a guy has a right to be opinionated about some things right? Despite your rationale, I will always think Batman is extremely cool, even without super powers. He has many things no other superheroes have, like resourcefulness and intelligence. He also has some street smarts, and knows where and how to strike at the underworld to cause damage. He is a vigilante, which is IMO much cooler than a big strong guy in blue spandex who fights other guys in blue spandex. The Joker is also one of the most frightening villains in all of comic books. (at least, post-Miller.)

Hmmm....deep Marvel. I can think of some. Peter David's Hulk run, Jim Starlin's Captain Marvel & Warlock, the current DD run, the Inhuman's 12 issue run a few years back......If you really want some intense cool stuff, I think Promethea and Planetary are tops.

Miller's Daredevil was extremely deep. He suceeded in putting a ton of vitality into a stale super-hero. Then when he was done he did the same thing for Batman. I would call that the best Marvel I have read. (although Stan Lee's comics were revolutionary for their day, don't get me wrong.)

I loved Image's Supreme.
I had every one that came out and enjoyed all there radical changes he went through by various writers.
What Alan Moore did was just brilliant though.

Savage Dragon was great for many years but then for some reason I got tired of him.

I haven't seen Marshal Law for a long time.
Not since the Mask team up.
He was always one of my favorites.

I seldom buy any now.
They're just not as fun as they used to be.
I'm glad i have a freaking huge collection from the 70s and 80s for my own kids.
Although Spiderman seems to have gotten a lot better in the last few years. Lots of the old humor is back.

I didn't know Moore was writing Supreme until long after he started, so I don't have them. I should go back and get them. Which issue was his first?
