Marvel rules over all, but I still love Superman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter.....

I have to go with Marvel as well. I always liked their comics far more than DCs; Marvel had continuity in their books and in their whole universe, whereas DC (at least when I was buying) was all over the place with multiple earths and so on.
And also, I absolutely loved the character of Phoenix and the whole Dark Phoenix saga (X-men). I think I still have that letter from Jim Shooter somewhere...

...but in the morning, I will be sober
Hmm...curious how there seems to be a sharp division between DC and Marvel fans, at least here. Well, I don't actually hate Marvel...but given the choice between a Marvel or a DC comic, I'd pick up the DC.
Favorite DC characters:
Dr. Fate
Superman
V (V For Vendetta)
Martha Washington (Give Me Liberty)
John Constantine (Hellblazer) -- speaking of which, it's been turned into a movie! Constantine will be played by some actor named Keanu Reeves.
Favorite Marvel:
Thor
The Punisher
Dr. Strange
Silver Surfer
Spider-Man (okay, is it small 'm' or capital 'M'??)
Other:
Really liked Magnus Robot Fighter for a brief shining period. I pictured him as a futuristic Haruchai as he crushed them nasty robots with his bare hands.
Favorite superhero team:
um...er...Watchmen?
Favorite superpower:
Dr. Fate -- sorcerer of cosmic power. Nothing much fazes him/her. Just don't know what the heck happened in that goofy DC universe meltdown which somehow turned my beloved Dr. Fate into simply some guy named "Fate." I'm not sure I want to know.
Dumbest superpower weakness:
Green Lantern being ineffective against anything colored yellow. That is lame beyond words, people. I've heard, though, that this vulnerability has been rectified. So...he's only useless against, what, purple now?

I didn't vote, because my favorite comic company, CrossGen, wasn't a choice.
I just got into some of their comics a few months ago, and then they went under. A damned shame.
CrossGen was doing things I'd never seen before, although I admit I'm a novice in the field. I wasn't interested in super-hero stuff, so the four comics I tried were Brath, Sojourn, El Cazador and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Brath was Conan-like, about psuedo-Scottish clans resisting a Roman Empire. El Cazador was a pirate saga. Kiss Kiss was a send-up of the sixties secret agent genre.
And Sojourn, the best comic I've ever read, was epic fantasy. Greg Land was a superb artist.
Now they're all gone.
Way back when I really liked Mike Grell's Warlord, so I guess I'd vote for DC as second choice. And I'm a fan of Preacher, and isn't Vertigo an off-shoot of DC? So yeah, I'll go with DC. By default.

Here ya go--Captian Universe (Marvel)--first appeared 1954! But had best drawn personal run '80 and '81
(We're GEEKED, we're stoked, who's your daddy?, yeah baby toot, TOOT! )Captain Universe is the generic name for the recipient of the Uni-Power, a special kind of energy that endows an individual with a host of superhuman powers. The Uni-Power is a manifestation of the Enigma Force, an extradimensional energy originating in the subatomic realm called the Microverse, wielded by the ethereal Time Travelers. The Uni-Power appears to be a floating globule of luminescent energy that appears seemingly from out of nowhere to engulf an individual, conferring upon him or her the costume, powers and knowledge of Captain Universe. The Uni-Power only manifests itself at a time of crisis - be it personal or worldwide - and withdraws when the crisis has abated. How it chooses the individual who get full possession of the Uni-Power to solve his or her crisis is yet known. The Uni-Power does not remain unmanifested for very long. It transfers from one person to another across the face of the world with no perceptible time lapsing between. At all times somewhere on Earth there is a Captain Universe (once, a pair of twins were Captains Universe simultaneously).
The Uni-Power can be manipulated by each Captain Universe in a variety of ways, dependent upon each recipient's imagination and strength. The Uni-Power amplifies strength about fifty times Thus if a person can normally lift (press) 150 pounds, he or she would now be able to lift approximately 7,500 pounds. Each Captain Universe is also granted the ability to fly by harnessing the Uni-Power's energy to generate antigravitions. The Uni-Power also grants the ability to manipulate structure of objects, changing one shape into another, or even transmuting the elements of an object from one substance to another. This power of molecular manipulation extends to both organic and inorganic matter. Thus the Uni-Power can be used to heal wounds by rearranging the molecules of flesh, tissues or organs, or it can be used to alter the physical characteristics of a person (enlarging the hands of changing their features). The Uni-Power can also be wielded like an energy-beam, generating a luminous burst of energy with a concussive force determined to an extent by the user's ability. The Uni-Power also grants each Captain Universe Uni-Vision which enable the user to see the molecular structure of an object, to see through walls, or to see long distances away. The Uni-Vision is emitted by Captain Universe's eyes and produces a visible beam of energy. This energy has certain hypnotic-side-effects: a skillful wielder of the Uni-Vision can use it to hypnotize people into telling the truth.
So far, the identities and exploits of but a handful of Captain Universes have been disclosed. The first was ex-astronaut Ray Coffin (MICRONAUTS #8) who wielded the Uni-Power to help battle the Microversian tyrant Baron Karza. Other recipients have been Steve Coffin, the son of the original Captain Universe (MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #9), the twins Clare and Ann Dodgson (MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #10), the cat burglar Monty Walsh (MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #11), the Hulk's alter ego Bruce Banner (HULK ANNUAL #10) and the sorcerer supreme Doctor Strange (MICRONAUTS #35).

Spider man also wielded Captain Universe power to battle the Tri-Sentinel....

But the Comics I read as a kid spread pretty evenly between Marvel, DC, Image, Malibu and Dark Horse.

What powers? Compared to THANOS, who wishes the total destuction of all life in the universe (and has come very close serveral times), your puny powers are........well frankly they'er pretty impressive.Mr Fixit wrote:A Gunslinger wrote:Superpower you would most like to have:

THOOLAH - Nuff said.
I remember Thanos...he's that guy from Infinity Gauntlet. I know, that was a while back. (I said I hadn't read any comics for years.) It was an interesting story until the 2nd last issue or whatever, when I realized logic and credibility had left the building. It was all about selling a glossy comic book, not telling a good story. (Ooh, shocking.) Then after the Infinity Gauntlet came the Infinity Watch or something. Great. Have they gotten to the Infinity Cufflinks yet?
No offense to any Thanos or Marvel fans intended.
And since I'm on a rant: why are divine or cosmic beings drawn with MUSCLES? Why do they require muscles? Seeing an early muscular "Eternity" was...strange. Exactly who is Eternity--the embodiment of all that is-- trying to impress??
Yes, pointless questions. No answer except "that's just how they're drawn."
