Back to Canada appreciation: My favorite hotel ever is in Victoria, BC--the Basset Hound Inn. Mock-Tudor, huge, with wrought-iron basset hounds all over the place, and a real one lounging by the fireplace in the lobby, who is not only slobbery, but also friendly. Marvelous. I don't know if it's still there or not. The last time I visited was probably 20 years ago now.

I love the Festival Inn in Stratford. I haven't been there in awhile, but last time I stayed they had these huge oversized, extralong bathtubs that you could stretch out full length in and really take a soak -- they even had built in arm rests! BLISS!!!!!!

My goal is to one day stay in the Emperess hotel in Victoria...it's so beautiful, with vines growing up the sides of it and everything...*sigh*

The Banff Springs Hotel. If you can, stay there. Their spa is incredible...I get to go once a year because my dad's company has a golf tournament on the hotel's course, and the wives/other ladies (it's a construction company, so most of the women who go to the tourney are the worker's wives) get gift certificates to the spa if they don't want to golf

If I can help it, I will never move out of Alberta...I adore it here (and we don't have PST, suckers!

)...but I wouldn't protest too much at moving to Vancouver Island.

I didn't understand a word of either of these posts. I thought people from Canadia (much better spelling IMHO. Canadians should be from Canadia. People from Canada should be called Canadans. Weird name for a country either way) were supposed to speak English or summit?

They're talking English in their charming Canadian accents.

Drew sounds like he's from someplace in the Maritimes (provinces along the Atlantic), and the others from what you would probably consider to be the centrally geographic part of the country -- the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

Though nothing is as charming as hearing a French Canadian man speak English with that lovely Quebecoise (did I spell that right?) accent.

Man, I love visiting Montreal.

The men are just

I am fortunate in living about 35-40 miles from the Canadian border, and head over there as often as I can.

Peeler: stripper

Chesterfiled: couch or sofa

Grey cup: superbowl of Canadian football

Perogies: Mashed potatos with cheese in a small pastry

donairs: spicey mid-easter meat with creamy cheese sause
served in a pita

poutine: french fries with cheese curds and gravy

cod tounges: self expanitory, although some people include the throat
as well.

Haligonians! That's awesome! Almost as good as Glaswegians for people from Glasgow.

One of my goals in life is to visit the Maritimes, specially PEI (I'm such a sucker for Anne of Green Gables) and Newfoundland.

Also amusing as a Peeler is a policeman in british isles.

btw..."Canada" comes from a native word (I forget which native language)..."Kanata" which I think means "village"
