yes yes yes!! You need too. I saw it on Broadway with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman and it took my breath away then. And I wasn't sure if I would like the movie. But, oh sweet sweet mercy, it is absolutely wonderful!!! :D

We got our copy last night, and after we started to watch it, the most amazing thing happened - my wife turned to me and said "We need surround sound." GLORY! Best Buy, here I come!

What's the significance of the phrase "Keep your hand at the level of your eyes?"

The Phantom could "entrance" people with his eyes...he not only was a magician, but a hypnotist. Hence, Christine following him that first time down to his "home" under the opera house. "The Music of the Night" is basically an enchantment he puts on her. "Keep your hand at the level of your eyes" is a warning to not look into the Phantom's eyes/face.

You have brought me to the moment where words run dry...

But his voice filled my spirit
with a strange, sweet sound
In the night there was music in my mind
And through music my soul began to soar!
And I heard as I'd never heard before

Yet in his eyes all the sadness of the world
Those pleading eyes, that both threaten and adore

Okay, my obsession with the Phantom has been renewed 100 fold. I have the music swirling in my head all day and all night long now. I sing the songs to the babies...I hum them in the shower...I listen to the soundtrack during my chemo treatments (sooths my soul). I'm lost in it once more.

Flattering child, you shall know me
See why in shadow I hide
Look at your face in the mirror
I am there inside...

I've been spending some time on a PotO message board and have been engaging in some wonderful discussions over there.

Father once spoke of an angel
I used to dream he'd appear
Now as I sing, I can sense him
And I know he's here

Here in this room
he calls me softly
somewhere inside hiding

Somehow I know
he's always with me
he - the unseen genius...

Angel of Music!
Guide and guardian!
Grant to me your glory!

Angel of Music!
Hide no longer!
Secret and strange angel

I finally got a chance to watch it tonight. :D I think anyone who has enjoyed the play will also enjoy the movie. 8)
RAOUL
No more talk
of darkness,
Forget these
wide-eyed fears.
I'm here,
nothing can harm you -
my words will
warm and calm you.
Let me be
your freedom,
let daylight
dry -your tears.
I'm here,
with you, beside you,
to guard you
and to guide you . . .
CHRISTINE
Say you love me
every
waking moment,
turn my head
with talk of summertime . . .
Say you need me
with you,
now and always . . .
promise me that all
you say is true -
that's all I ask
of you . . .
RAOUL
Let me be
your shelter,
let me
be your light.
You're safe:
No-one will find you
your fears are
far behind you . . .
CHRISTINE
All I want
is freedom,
a world with
no more night . . .
and you
always beside me
to hold me
and to hide me . . .
RAOUL
Then say you'll share with
me one
love, one lifetime . . .
Iet me lead you
from your solitude . . .
Say you need me
with you
here, beside you . . .
anywhere you go,
let me go too -
Christine,
that's all I ask
of you . . .
CHRISTINE
Say you'll share with
me one
love, one lifetime . . .
say the word
and I will follow you . . .
BOTH
Share each day with
me, each
night, each morning . . .
CHRISTINE
Say you love me . . .
RAOUL
You know I do . . .
BOTH
Love me -
that's all I ask
of you . . .
(They kiss)
Anywhere you go
let me go too . . .
Love me -
that's all I ask
of you . .
(CHRISTINE starts from her reverie)
CHRISTINE
I must go -
they'll wonder where I am . . .
wait for me, Raoul!
RAOUL
Christine, I love you!
CHRISTINE;
Order your fine horses!
Be with them at the door!
RAOUL
And soon you'll be beside me!
CHRISTINE
You'll guard me, and you'll guide me . . .
(They hurry off. The PHANTOM emerges from
behind the statue)

[Phantom]
I gave you my music
let your song take wing
and now...
how you've repaid me
denied me and betrayed me...

He was bound to love you
when he heard you sing...
Christine...

[Christine and Raoul off screen]
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
say the words and I'll will follow you...
Say you'll need me with you here beside you...

[Phantom]
You will curse the day you did not do!
All that the Phantom asked of you!

At the end when Raoul visited her grave, and he saw a rose from the phantom...beautifull (sniff-sniff)..that wasn't in the play, was it?
