Kevin's Watch

I believe I was led here by the hand of God and my brother for the soul purpose of meeting and helping Isaiah. Things like this happen to me all the time. The Watch is like a second family to me now. I have made friendships here that I'm sure will last for a very very long time.

What is the common denominator? SRD for the most part. But, what makes us different from other boards? I think it's the deep respect we all have for each other, it's the caring and compassion we all have for each other, and the love we all feel for each other. There are people on here that I have come to love so much that if anything ever happened to any of you, I would be devastated.

This is truly the best place to be on the net.

As ChoChiyo says, we are all seekers after something. It may not even matter what it is that we seek, only that we seek at all.

Personally, accident and curiosity led me here, but it was the conversation that kept me here. Where else can I debate such interesting topics on a daily basis? In real life, such debates are few and far between. Here, they are an ongoing process.

The fact that we have all read SRD already predisposes us to being open to such conversation. The fact that we have loved and read and re-read his books makes us the sharers of a certain mindset, of a certain way of thinking about the world, of being willing to think about it in a different way.

And the fact that we find so many others who feel the same here is what brings us back.

Yeah, that makes sense to me. Sure, SRD brought us all here, but that alone doesn't explain the community, at least not to me.

Let me give you an example of another board that I used to frequent. This was a board associated with the movie Gods and Generals. Man, the tempers used to flare on there all the time. Now, of course there were alot of disagreements over details of certain battles from the Civil War, and there was alot of North vs. South stuff. But when threads were started that strayed away from historical topics to modern day topics, it really got bad. I finally stopped going out of pure frustration.

There was another forum I used to visit, and I was one of the main people there. One day I got flamed big time, and someone went through all my posts to find grammatical and other errors, posting them to insult me. Never went back. And that's the difference here - no one gets flamed bad. It's comfortable.

We all like SRD, and we all type in English.

Let's not forget that we are all people who write in forums about stuff we are interested in.

That's not trivial. All of us are SRD fans. But we are a subset which wishes to discuss, dissect, and re-imagine his works. There are many who are not.

In addition, we are forum communicators. We all inherently believe that we will post messages that someone, somewhere will be interested in reading. (Not that we are always accurate on this, but it's what we believe.) And we are interested in reading what others who feel like that say.

I'm too new to claim to be in any family, or comment on anyone who feels that they are.

But we are definitely Order donaldsonfannus, Family discussicus, Genus computersavvi, species forumtalker.

We all use a computer to get to this site.

Hmmm... I think that is a pretty good guess why some are here. It is similar to why I am here, but I am not so afraid to throw myself into life anymore. The only problem is when life tosses me to the sidelines lol. Gotta watch that hyperactive inner child as well... that is what gets me tossed back out.

That's classic. The thing is, I was never a forum talker before I found KW (and scarcely little afterwards). My time pre-KW was usually spent in chat, usually in #farscape and occasionally in #philosophy (yo, Fist). In fact, it wasn't until #farscape turned into such garbage with the cancellation that I gave KW more than a cursory glance.

Man, never thought I'd say it, but thank god Farscape was cancelled.

I'd like to think that for the most part we're a bunch of mature adults (even those that are younger in years) and that we have a certain level of respect for one another even if our views differ.

I remember popping onto the original kevinswatch discussion forum and thinking: "Hells bells ! OTHER people like TCOTC??" and then being annoyed with the bane of the internet - popup ads.

One of the things that really impresses me is the level of intelligence here - emotional and intellectual

I'm guessing that the obvious common denominator here at KW is that we've all suffered a significant head injury in the past though we can't remember it.

So, you're basically saying that our collective uncommonality is the common denominator. I disagree. But, I do agree that NOWgirl's denominator is way above average.

The only thing we have in common is that we are all not common...
