I might take up Quake III again. The gold version is coming through the mail via Amazon. I'm on a classic gaming binge these days.

Gods...I must be getting old if people are calling QIII classic.

Heh, sorry. By "classic", I meant games that lean toward the run-and-gun deathmatch, which Quake III has arguably perfected. I'm just in a mood for brainless, visceral shooters these days.
Question: is Team Arena still played?

I've never downloaded ANY of the updates. I do have the Gold version (if by that you mean QIII and QIII Team Arena in one package). I have a problem getting into custom servers, but that's to be expected. People have modified the game itself, created custom maps, etc. There are a few servers I can get onto that have crazy weapons I can't get when playing by myself, like shotguns that shoot multiple rail shots, etc. So apparently, you don't need to have downloaded updates in order for all this stuff to work.
I get tired of the "enhanced" weapons. They are too deadly. They make it too easy.
A few months back, I read about someone updating the QIII graphics to modern standards. I'd love to see that. They complain that Q4 looks good, but doesn't move as fast as the Q3 physics. So they want the best of both worlds.
I'd actually love to update my game, download the patches, etc. I just want someone to make it easy for me so I don't have to research all this!

Any help would be welcomed.
