I don't see a few cosmetic differences as turning a character into "a completely different one." If you cannot tolerate something as frivolous as minor appearance alterations, then I reccomend you stay away from every film adaptation of anything at all. They all, without exception, do it, and it's unreasonable to demand that they don't.

I'm not sure. Upon putting the question to myself, part of me felt I'd have to see it, simply because it's something very important to me, though I fully expect to be disgusted. Another part of me finds the potential revulsion too overwhelming.

My sentiments exactly. I am in full agreement.

Pretty mixed bag, as far as shoot-em-ups go. I thought it lacked focus.

I enjoyed it.

But I have never read the Hellblazer series. Though I'd like to.

What I HATED was "I ROBOT"--not because it was necessarily a horrible film, but because it had zero in common with the book I remember loving quite thoroughly.

Why not call it "YOU ROBOTS" and have a little integrity?

Not that this discussion belongs in Constantine, but to answer your question, there is no Asimov book called "I, Robot". At least, it wasn't a new book, it was just a repackaging of Asimov Robot short stories released just before he passed away. So, it would have been difficult to make a single movie literally based on the book. The way I see it, "I, Robot" is a story based on the 'Robot society' Asimov created, and I think that was the point of Asimov's books, and in that, I think the movie was a success. Where they went off course was with the characterization of Susan Calvin; but there's no way I'm going to complain about that

Yes, I know...it just didn't have the Asmovian flavor that I had hoped.

Like I said, I didn't think it was a bad movie. I just think they prostituted Asimov's reputation with his fans for a few extra pieces of silver. Which always irritates me.

The movie, I enjoyed, but it was an effort to repress the ire that rose up regarding the title.

Oi, don't get me started on "I, Robot". "Vintage 2004".

Having read quite a few Hellblazer comics, the movie shouldnt be watched as a "part of it" kind of thing (forgive the grammar, i have flu), anyway. On its own, Constantine isnt so bad, i enjoyed it and i am a BIG fan of the comics, yes, it is very "Hollywoodified" since John is supposed to be a blonde dishevelled brit with a dry/detached sense of humour. Where as Keanu is still dressed in his Matrix style black suits etc but all in all, the movie by itself isnt all that bad and the story was quite well done, move it any faster and people would have just said it was some action packed blood/fight fest, so its much of a muchness.

I liked it, go watch it, just leave your baggage at the door.

Yep. Never heard of the movie (I've been overseas for two months), never read the comics, and never read the reviews. Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I don't get people's problem with Keanu. No, he isn't the best actor in the world. But neither is Tom Cruise. Christ, neither was John Wayne. He's just an actor (lower case 'a') playing parts. I'm glad he takes the parts he does, like Johnny Mnemonic, Matrix, etc. Perhaps the role could've been cast better (dunno, see "haven't read the comics"), but blame the little name that appears after "Casting" in the credits.

The only bad thing about the movie is that it seriously made me want a smoke every five minutes. I say it was good, and I consider myself something of a snob when it comes to movies.

Constantine is still up there, but he better start singing his butt oFf if he want's to be the next Idol.

Saw Constantine a few weeks back. Not impressed.

I thought the idea was quite interesting, but the plot was so rushed it was silly, and so many things were unexplained. The deal with his tattoos is just one.

As for Reeves, I don't have anything against him (I shouldn't, considering people keep saying I resemble him - well, him or Brendan Fraser ) and I think he was fine for this, but the writing was poor.

Anyhow, I was thinking about renting it but perhaps I won't anymore... unless I get desperate, which is a very real possibility.
